Re: Cranks but won't start

Under rear seat…
Fuel pump modulator
Rear wiper relay
Auto Shoulder Belt Control unit… If you have one

Re: Cranks but won't start

cool. thanks for all the info. The under-seat connector is 2 wires.

The 5 pin connector is at the top of the fuel tank, right underneath the cover in the trunk. Perhaps the 2 pin connector to the actual fuel pump is inside the tank? Either way, it's right on top of the fuel tank where the tubing comes out. If I want to hotwire the pump to test if it's still working, which 2 pins should I hook up to? Pin1 and Pin3 (yellow & blue)?

I'll try to get some pictures whenever I work on it again.

Which file shows where these fusible links are?

Re: Cranks but won't start

Just checked the file F_BASIC_TESTING...has an entire fuel system test. I'll try that as well.

Re: Cranks but won't start

I would be real careful hot wiring the fuel pump. Just splicing into a couple of wires could be a disaster.
If you disconnect the 2 wires to the fuel pump and fasten a 12 volt source to the pump itself, you should be fine, just to see if it runs.
Isn't learning fun!!

Hang in there,

Keith

Re: Cranks but won't start

All I had time for this weekend was the starter fluid test...it started! It's good to know I'm barking up the right tree. Hopefully tonight I can test the entire circuit and see where I'm losing power!

Re: Cranks but won't start

Problem is just pumping is not always good enough the injectors need like 90lb ( just a guess ) I had a weak pump in my 1991 Turbo and had gas but would not strart. Yes first see if it pumps at all.

Re: Cranks but won't start

My understanding was that the fuel pump didn't run at all

Re: Cranks but won't start

Haven't tried running the pump mainly because i don't know what voltage to give it. I figure if I shoot it 12V for just a sec, i can at least hear it run or not run. But, ignoring that, my tests to this point show 0v @ the fuel pump when I turn the key to "on" or to "start" even though the relay is good. So, I need to figure out why there's no voltage getting there. That's what I hope to test for next. Then i can find out if the pump still works or not.

Re: Cranks but won't start

*deleted - relay is fine*

Testing ECU outputs. Next is modulator and resistor. Anybody know how to drop the upper trunk trim without breaking all the clips?

Re: Cranks but won't start

I have been following this thread. I thought its going to be something major
Now do you mean your battery is not producing enough voltage to ECU or starter
Anyway, congrats on finding your problem.
