Re: Trouble with 5 speed coversion
Yeah i would say its the rear diff, but this is over the internet, hehe.
Get it checked out and make sure it isnt something else first before swapping a center diff. UPgradable options are out there for the WRX trannies from many different companies. The 06' wrx is actually a 3.545 FD just to give you the heads up. _billy

Re: Trouble with 5 speed coversion
PLEASE NOTE...the 06 wrx has a 3.70 final drive. the rear diff that came out of the car needs to go in the svx. It is better than the svx rear diff because its a real posi unit. no gear swapping.

Re: Trouble with 5 speed coversion
I dont think the rear axles from the wrx are long enough to use in the svx. also the ring and pinion are out of the wrx diff the only thing that is out of the svx is the differential itself so that the svx axles could be used. I think the rear diff was marked 3.84 when i got it could it have been from the wrong model?

Re: Trouble with 5 speed coversion
Never heard of a 3.84
Subaru Rear Diff....maybe 3.54...which is the same as the SVX's original diff...

Re: Trouble with 5 speed coversion
I could be wrong about the final drive but i know the diff matches the tranny. The car drives fine in every other way. If my final drives were mismatched wouldn't my tranny explode in about 2 seconds of driving? Huck you use the svx diff and axle with the swapped gears right?

Re: Trouble with 5 speed coversion
THat is the procedure i followed to install mine( i was probably folowing your write up). I think it has to be in the center differential. Is there any way to test the front and rear differential individually( take out one set of axles ). Or some kind of test to determine front or rear?

Re: Trouble with 5 speed coversion
I have had a 4.11 rear with a 3.90 trans. Aside from noticeable oversteer on gravel and dirt trails, it didn't show any signs of wear until the cetner diff began to buckle on pavement.. Prob 1k miles of driving. Thats when I found the trans was a 3.90 and not a 4.11 Swapped the center diff out w/ a new one and changed the rear... Good as new

Re: Trouble with 5 speed coversion
Here is a LEGACY/IMPREZA link to use if you have any doubt as to what tranny you have. Also covers WRX's, Outbacks and others.
http://spda-online.ca/modules/tinyco...ite/tc_28.html just find the TY# on your tranny and look it up on this list. some year models and makes share the same tranny, but not many. Hope this helps confirm what you have. |
