Have your SVX evaluated

Hello All,

in reading a post by "MoreIBNR" located at

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=43248

I can make a suggestion to you all. As well, I am not sure how this may affect your insurance rate but if you gamble with it you may lose out and I don't like to gamble.

My suggestion: to those of you who have value in your cars that you cannot afford to lose or don't want to lose you should go out and invest the $100 bucks to have a professional insurance accepted evaluation of your car done. If the unfortunate situation of an accident or theft where a total loss should happen it is not pleasant when your insurance company gets back to you with a check for al lot less than what you paid or spent in recent repairs or mods. When the evaluation is done these things are taken into account. You need to make sure that this evaluation is done in accordance with your insurance company, send them the report (if favorable), and I believe it needs to be done every three years.

As well what you may not know is that aside form your cars value a insurance company is obligated to refund any repairs that you have recently done to the car. I had an Audi stolen a few years ago. The car was worth 10K according to the insurance company. Just a few months before I had a complete engine rebuild costing me some $2500 and new mags with tires put on. Luckily I had a picture of the car with the new mags as I could not find the receipt for them but the engine was done at the dealer so glad I paid the taxes. They had to repay me the 10K plus the $2500 for the rebuild and another $2000 for the mags and tires as the cars evaluation they provide is always based on standard factory specs.

All my cars that I have that I feel are worth more than the standard market value will allow I have this done and it has never failed me. Yes I may pay a bit more in insurance per year but if it means thousands more should I find myself in the unfortunate position of losing my car I will be thankful for it.

Just my two cents.

Regards

Max

Good point

I had an 86 Monte Carlo SS fully insured w/ a stereo system upgrade noted to the insurance. I didn't have it evaluated when insured. After being stolen I was fortunate enough to have gotten estimates of the stereo systems worth from 2 different shops.
The cars value: $2750
The stereo system install: $21000-$22000
I had the paperwork to back up the hardware in the audio system, but I did all the work myself so that was harder to prove.
After 6 months I got a check for the car and another check for the system.
I feel lucky to have gotten the full amount for the system.
I wished the law would have gone after who stole my car as I knew who did it, but at least I got some cash for the whole thing.
I have had numerous breakins and cars stolen since then and have yet to get any other posative results. I thank you for bringing this idea up as my transmission alone is more than what the SVX would blue book at, not to mention all the other stuff I have put into the car.

Hey thanks! This is some great advice however my SVX is already valued very high by my insurance company and I got a great deal on it. My first SVX I paid 4,000 and after my dad totalled it Allstate gave me 8,500 which was the max value at the time and they sold it back to me for only 600!!! I'm not counting the 500 deductible because since my dad wrecked it he paid that for me
My 3rd SVX I only paid 500 for it and its in great shape so no matter what I will get thousands more for that one if it gets wrecked
ALSO
Here is another lil tip with insurance compainies....About 2 years ago I had a small fender bender in my SVX. It was already a big deal because even with the small damage the bill was 7500!!! Allstate asked if I wanted to claim a total loss and collect the money or fix it...obviously I said FIX IT!!! BUT....A few weeks after I got it back my driveshaft went out. I took it to my buddies shop and he said that since it was a front end collision that that was probably what caused it...the impact. One of my u joints was busted. Anyways even though my claim was a done deal he called my insurance company and said the damage was caused due to the accident and that they just didn't catch it. Long story short an allstate evaluater went to the shop and looked at my car and they paid the bill! I was a very happy customer so remember ANY mechanical problems your car has shortly after having repairs from an accident may also be covered by your insurance depending on what it is!
