With the stock auto I had to floor it to get the rear to break loose, and it would do it at random times. With the 5 speed I'm totally in control with sliding around. 100% better, it's a must for any svx if you've got a couple grand to burn.

I don't want to jack this interresting thread but I have some little questions about the 04+ WRX tranny swap...

Since we can use our stock rear diff, if this swap will made any changes to our top speed? I guess that the gear ratio will be nicer for sport driving?

And what about all the hardware around the tranny? Wich pedal, cluch cylinder can we use?

And by the way, can someone confirm the average weight we remove when installing a 5 or 6 speed?

Thanks!

What else do we need?
Clutch cylinder, slave cylinder, custom sub frame?

you need a master cylinder. A set of hydraulic pedals from a legacy or imprezza. You are alos going to need to create a transmission crossmember for the new mount location. not to mention extending the shift linkage and modifying the pedal clutster to work properly....

Tom did my 5 speed manual swap out of a 2003 wrx. Quite honestly, I love it. I have the short shifter, which was sawed off an additional ~2", so shifting is literally nothing more than the flick of the wrist. It's very tight as well. We had some snow/ice the other week, and i took it out front of my house. Revved, and let the clutch out. All 4 wheels spun easily, but the car caught up in no time, and I never felt like I did not have control of the car.
