Talking Happiness is a car that appreciates in value.

I was just musing that I paid off my 95 SVX in April of 2005 and its KBB was $3000. Checked last night and now its KBB is $4500 to $5000.

Never had a car do that. Think I'll hold on to this one.

BTW I run a 1800PACKRAT franchise in Delaware. If anyone needs storage or moving anywhere call me for a discount. An SVX fits into a 16 foot PACKRAT, but you need ramps to clear the lip. 2x8's stacked up worked pretty well.

Too bad.

That sucks. I searched and there are few 96's for sale around here.

I don't have them for that reason, but it would be nice.

I've always thought it would be cool if these cars could at least level-out and maintain a value close to what I've got in 'em. Let's see, there's the purchase price, the tires, the wheel bearings (x3 pair), the trunk struts, the window switches, the antenna mast, the ABS tone wheels, the power steering hoses, the ABS sensor, the wiper motor, the brake rotors, the CD player, the transmission cooler, the sway bar bushings, the timing belt, the batteries,...

The receipts are filed by date in a filing cabinet, but I'm reluctant to run a total. Still, it beats payments on something newer, that has nowhere near the class.

I just had a conversation with my insurance company on collision and comprehensive. The Max pay out from them is $4400. Cdn based on low mileage top condition.

You know that they would never give you any thing near the real value.

not that i'm recomending insurance fraud or anything.... but if your car gets totalled, photoshop a buncha reciepts for JDM/trim/performance pieces that aren't really on the car. They have to give you X percentage of their value, and you pocket the money!!!

Many years ago, my son bought a '72 Camaro, really sharp with new interior, great wheels, especially clean. Anticipating what might happen with a teen driver and a high-powered car, I took it to my local insurance agent and got a "true value" appraisal, a confirmed true replacement value for this car. The insurance cost a bit more, but not much. As expected, six months later the car was virtually totalled in a wreck (nobody was seriously injured), and after an inspection of the "remains" of the vehicle, he got a true value replacement check from the insurance company. So, if your car is worth more than what your insurance company says (ask), then inquire as to whether or not they will appraise your car for a true replacement value policy. I understand that many insurance companies offer such a service. And for those of you who drive your cars infrequently, inquire about "show car" or "collector car" type insurance. You just might qualify. Best wishes.
Preston
