Another one saved! (an odyssey, pics, etc)
After a dormancy spanning several years, 1992 SVX # 7222 roared back to life.
I purchased this car about two years ago with the intention of putting a new trans in it, possibly a 5 -speed swap candidate. However, due to other obligations, I had been unable to complete the car. I picked up this 1992 Pearl LSL on a rainy night from the original owner on Long Island, NY, last winter. He had purchased the car brand new, along with a Acura NSX. The latter survived the years much better, and was still in the garage. The SVX, he (mistakenly) gave to his high-school aged son to drive, and soon the trans was gone and it incurred light damage all around. It sat at least a year and a half, before he put it on the market in the For Sale section on this site, and went to have a look. (it looked great in the picture, minus backwards wheels and broken light) Initially, I was hesitant to make the purchase upon seeing the car, but I looked through the dirt, dust, and dings, and became determined to save this car from its current circumstances. I towed the car back to what was then home, in southern NJ. (120 miles) As I got off the exit ramp, the car shifted to one side of the trailer, blowing out a tire. Thats where the quirks began with this car! -In May 05, I jumped at a decision to move to western PA, and brought all of my things with me, including this car! (475 miles one way!) During my time in Pennsylvania, the car sat in a friends yard, while I struggled with other obligations and issues, it sat, and sat. I was almost convinced at one point by someone (i wont mention names) to part out the car, as it "wasn't worth the time and money" to make it run again. Over a couple months, parts were "borrowed" from this car, including the radiator, fans, alternator, headlights, grille, corners. Eventually, I moved back to NJ after a couple months of frustration, dragging this car back (475 miles) with me sometime this past September I believe. The car then sat in front of my house, and a family friend's house, as I was occupied with other obligations and other SVXs. A few months ago, I seized the opportunity to have a low-mileage parts car (JeffN's former 97 Ebony LSi 52k with a Cert of Destruction). My brother was initially going to take posession of this car, as I had my Claret on the road at the time, and it was time for his first car. After a partially completed trans swap, and an exchange of words, I decided it was best to not give the keys to a 17-year old that had already gotten into three accidents, among other things. I then proceeded to tow the car to Philadelphia, where, under the knife at TomsSVX's place, this car would live again. Upon loading the car onto the trailer, the throttle got stuck wide open, and the car jumped over the ramps, nearly crashing into the back of my suv. It was resting on the front jack points, teetering with all four wheels off of the ground! With the assistance of Eric (It's Just Eric), we were able to safely remove the car from the trailer without any damage! I re-loaded the car, properly, and with a hand winch instead, and dropped it in Philly! After Tom spend tedious hours with the car, I was given the ok to pick her up! Yesterday, I tagged the car, and proceeded to drive the car home. I got about 30 miles, when the car shut off completely. I re-started the car, and began to drive again, only for it to start exhibiting charging issues, so I pulled into the Moorestown Mall on Rt 38. After Tom came, and we attempted to jump the car, we came to the conclusion that the alternator was faulty. I called AAA for a tow over to Little Egg Harbor, so that I could get some parts from my storage unit to fix the car. (getting really long winded... ) The tow truck driver showed quickly, and soon, the car was back in order again! Tonight, I plan to finally make a re-appearance at a local Subaru Meet, with a smile on my face, as this car lives again!
