Power Seatbelts Not Working Right?

I used to drive a '90 Legacy, so i know what the seatbelts are supposed to do. When you open the door, they move forward. I noticed the other day on the '92 SVX i just bought last month that the seatbelts only move when the key is in and the car is turned "on" (not necessarily the engine). Like if i park and turn the car off completely and open the door, the belts don't move, trapping me inside (how nice...). If i keep the key in the ignition and open the door, then they move.

Is this normal behavior for an SVX or is something wrong?

Thanks for your help.

No, that is not normal. It should not trap you inside.

Any ideas on how to fix it then? I hope it's something simple.

weird. Does it do this all of the time, or just on occasion? Your motor for them might slowly be dying. Mine do this on occasion, I just push the button

It does this all the time.

Well like i said, it works fine, as long as the key is in and "on". Of course, the normal routine for exiting a vehicle is to Park -> Turn Off Car -> Get out, and not Park -> Get Out -> Turn Off Car

And which "button" are you speaking of?

Same boat here, I'm leaning towards bad relays in the seatbelt computer.

there should be a release button right where the slider is. It sounds like you might have a flawed sensor.

Or there's not enough power going to the seatbelt motor when the engine is off and the belt sticks a bit.

Does it make any attempt to move at all when the engine is off?

I think I remember reading about the relays in the seatbelt computer needing to be resoldered, Is it both sides or just the drivers side?

Thanks for the link. I read through it all and will try resoldering some things if i get the time.

PS - is there a way to get this board to read top-down like a "normal" board? All the posts seem to be in reverse order to me.
