New Tires = Fun

The thrill is back! New tires on the car and no more vibration at 80 mph, not that it was that bad, just a mild steering wheel shake. Tire balancing was not fixing the problem. I was thinking I had bent the rims or broke the struts from a flying experience but I must have damaged the tires some how or they just wore out.

These new Yokohama AVS dB tires are very quiet over the rough concrete roads, remarkable. I wonder how loud they would be if I switched the right with the left side and ran them backwards? Has anyone tried that?

Also, no more road grab at slow speeds, the car tracks straight and the steering doesn't pull to a side any more. Another learning experience for me, the tires are very important on the SVX. I was thinking maybe the axles were bad again but nope the new tires made the change.

Now I have to wait to drive home after work! Can't wait that long. I am thinking about telling my car pool buddy to forget taking his car, to much FUN driving the SVX, better than ever!

John, good to "see" you. Great to hear of your "happy" experience. Don't stay away so long.

I had the same experience when I switched from the bargain basement Bridgestone Eagers that were on the car when I bought it, to a set of Toyo Proxes. It feels like a new car, and I also managed to lose the little 70-80 shimmy I had going on. It also feels a lot tighter as far as body roll is concerned. They don't look as good though, because the old cheapies were alot wider and filled out the wheel openings a little better. Small price to pay, though.

Larry,

i would be GLAD to let you know how the tires do in the snow.....IF IT WOULD SNOW I like to ski Do you care if it is only a FWD opinion? I still do not have AWD. The old tires were good in the snow. I never got stuck.

buyer beware......

stay away from the bridgestone potenza re730's. they are the loudest tires i have ever ridden on. loud at low speeds, high speeds, everywhere. i have to crank up my radio to prevent insanity. the only good thing is that they grip like flypaper. my luck sucks......

We'ren't you the one that was driving at 60mph on the rumble strips to "test something"? Is this part of the whole flying experience?

The official tire of the SVX World Network?

Sure glad to hear your positive experience with the Yoko AVS dbs. I am waiting for the arrival of a set. I also have some shudder at about 80 - 85 mph, and hope the new tires makes it go away.

Just hoping it DOESN'T snow for a week or two, then it can do what it will.

FINALLY! We're expecting 3-5 inches by tomorrow morning (Thanks John -- he said he'd pray for snow for me )

Downside: grinding noise as I stopped this morning. Car's in the shop for brake pads. John, pray for my rotors. Seems like someone's listening to you.
