I just wanted to point out something interesting from your post. I think the general perception from other countries is that agencies like the police are consistent acros the country. But there is no agency called the 'US Police.' True, we have federal law enforcement agencies, but the grunt work like that discussed in this thread is handled at the state, county or municipal level.

And those thousands of jurisdictions are all very separate entities. This is a big damned country, and there are different laws, ordinances and policies everywhere.

I'm sure you understand all this, Andy, but I thought your use of the term 'US Police' highlighted a perception I see from people around the world.

Besides, most of those police chase videos you'll see are from California (specifically LA), which is going to sink into the Pacific anyway - so don't hold it against us.

Sorry for not being more specific. I was refering to 'US Police' rather than 'French' 'Austrailian' 'Canadian' etc. I was not more specific as my comment was about the Merc rather than the Police.

We have a few of these Police Chase programmes, usually hosted by a dipstick called Sherrif Burrell. That Merc film was very enlightening, but the spin out method has less success on most Euro and Japanese cars.

Do US cars have a built in design fault or is it that the more enlightened and skillful drivers buy imports?
