o/t toyotas

ok guys... i have a question

what's a ae86?

as i understood it, ae86 are toyota cars matched with the 4age engine, and that they were sold under the names levin and trueno in japan. although they are similar to the corollas of the same age in the us, i did not think that the corollas ever got the 4age engine, nor were the corollas ever labeled ae86

any thoughts??

Those are toyotas. I thougth Toyota is introducing them to US with the same name (for younger people). They have a ton of rice options like big coffee can muffler and such. Or is it a different thing? humm..

yeah i know they are toyotas....
the ae86 i was referring to are like toyotas from the mid eighties to the early nineties....

the reason why i'm asking is because i don't think that in the us toyota ever released what they called in japan the ae 86.... but since there's a popular comic book right now on ae86, lots of kids in the us want to call their old corollas ae86s.... which irritates me...

its just like integra rs or ls owners calling their cars a gsr or a type r....

for example, i won't call my n/a mr2 sw20 (which is the turbo model) mine is a sw21, and its much slower, but i'm ok with it... cuz that's what it it...

re: i think the corolla gt-s is the one

subafan, i think the corolla gt-s does use the 4age engine. they were made in the same time period that you are inquiring about. i've also seen some body styles that are similiar to that of the levin or trueno here. but hell the honda accord looked similar to that body style at that time.

ae86 is used in japan and australia for drift enthusists because it's an old car and it's cheap. since accidents are inevitable for drifters, they prefer the low costs of an ae86. the ae86 is not all that strong in power, but since it's light and rwd, it handles well with drifting. i believe the more popular car for drifting now is the silva's (similiar to the nissan 240sx in the states).

fyi - new corollas are labelled like ae101 or 102.
