OT: new maxima

okay, so BOTH of my parents are looking for new cars.. my dad wants an SVX, and my mom wants something brand-new. She drove through the Nissan dealer's lot last night and saw the new Maxima which she liked quite a bit.. I checked up on it online, and it looks pretty nice.. does anyone know anything about it that I don't?

Maxima

Now that the engine has been around a little, same as the altima, mondero, z, and a host of others. It is building a rep as a sludge engine. Gotta keep up on the oil changing or it'll sludge right up and it'll develop some valve tapping.

There's also a conventional moonroof available as an option, for those who don't like the skylight or want something that opens.

If I remember correctly, torque steer is noticeable, not surprising for 265HP FWD.

If you want my opinion...I don't care for the look of it (especially the back). The car does have some balls as for as what is under the hood. Moon roof is different though (like an observatory on wheels!).

Hmmmmm....a little bit

I was fortunate enough to get in on the 04 Maxima development throught my co-op job with Nissan. I can tell you this:

1. The interior plastics are somewhat easy to scratch
2. The car handles well, but you can feel its weight trying to push it around.
3. The seats are comfy, but it's tight on head room if you're tall
4. It's really nice
5. Has a mood light in the front for night driving
6. Lots of torque steer, but it's QUICK!
7. DEFINATELY keep up on the oil if you drive it hard
8. Sounds AMAZING (already has tuned intake and exhaust...that's how they squeeze the extra HP out of it compared to the Altima 3.5SE)
9. Conventional moonroof is available

I got to drive it around quite a bit, and it's definately a nice car.

think its pretty ugly, too, front AND rear. the previous gen. Maxima's were really nice looking cars.

Good Nissan site. Gotta love the torque of the VQ series of engines. We love our G35 (260hp version)
