Oh ****..what did i do?

I think i pressed one of the buttons on the remote while there was a little power left in it's batteries. When i get inside my car, the red light is blinking near the shifter and when i try to turn the ignition, the indicator and dash light blink for 30 seconds and then turn off, oh there is also a beeping noise. How do i disable this feature?

any help would be appreciated..

Sounds like you have some sort of aftermarket alarm, since there isn't a red light near the shifter on a stock SVX.

This sounds like the "countdown" feature you're describing. If the security system is on, and you lock the door with the key, the security system will automatically arm (indicated by a single flash of the parking lights) approximately 45 seconds after you've locked the door. When you return to the car, and unlock the door with the key, if you don't start the car right away, the car will begin to "count down" (indicated by a flashing of the parking lights, a click, and a soft beep from the horn) for (I think) ten seconds before the horn begins to sound. If you start the car in the middle of the count down sequence, the alarm will be negated and the security system re-set. To avoid the count down procedure, either use the remote to lock/unlock the doors, or, turn the security system off with the security button in the button cluster to the left of the steering wheel.

Mine looks like the cruise button but says "Security" on it. The red light in the button turns red when on.

I also have a red LED by the shifter. Never used it as I didn't know I had security until this post!

What red LED near the shifter? Exactly, where is it? I don't have that LED in any of the SVXes.

Yeah, sounds like you've got an A/M security unit. Turn off your stock unit (if you have one). The button (as previously noted) is next to the cruise button and says "security." Just make sure the little red LED is not on, or flashing, in that button (unless, of course, they've wired the A/M unit to it, which isn't usually likely).

Hi Larry,

This is my first SVX so I'm unsure if the alarm and the RED LED next to the shifter is standard or not. My SVX has the touring option - X35 in the vin number, X34 is standard. And also the 'Security button next to the cruise control button.

Perhaps the LED only came with the X35?

I have an LED by my shifter but I know it's for an aftermarket alarm.
