Hmm... I don't think the membership was ever actually purged. (except for a few select nozzles)

Case in point...
Just for fun I did a quick look at the end of the "top 20 posters" list (which incidentally is page 66 right now). I haven't checked out all the pages of members with a post count of "0" yet, but just for members with join dates of February 2003, there are 18! In other words, 18 new members have recently joined our ranks in the last couple weeks, but never actually posted. Thus, unless you happen to see their name listed up at the top of the page for a while until someone newer joins, you have never even heard of these people. Some have www links and everything so it is a bit interesting...... (yeah I'm a bit bored today)
Of course I would not suggest purging these members. But go back to join dates of a year ago and if there are zeroes there, now that is what I'm thinking. And then beyond that maybe those that have not posted for over a year, no matter what their count is. (even Eddycat, so long as his existing posts are preserved ) Of course in all cases emails, etc would be sent first.

A little more info...
Okay, maybe I'm getting into this too much.
I counted all the members that currently have "0" posts. Here's some numbers as of 12:50pm Pacific time 2/26/03. Members with zero post count: 320 Total membership: 1417 Approximate percent with zero post count: 23% And isolating the zero posters is really just the tip of the iceberg when we consider some other factors that make an "active member".

my 2 cents
Hello again, just me a Canadian guy!!
I post, can I stay??? Seriously, people who don't post are not actively working with what this group provides. I have learned a ton and had some fantastic dialogues and while I'm not that prolific on posts, I am pretty steady... If we are getting clogged up with TOTALLY inactive "members" lets email them to see if they still want to be part of this: interestingly, we could make this 'contact' a five question thing: Do you like the site and is it useful to you Do you post on a regular basis If not why If the site is reorganized, do you want to be included Do you still have an SVX or intend to get one in the next 6 months Site maintenance is not some out of left field, ultra-radical issue: its members keeping a volunteer group up to date with accurate records: nothing more Hotshoe |

Okay I promise last numbers for a little while...
Sorry for still more numbers, but I just discovered I could do an advanced search to pull up a list of those that haven't posted since a certain date.
I did it for 1/1/2002 (being generous) and came up with 410! As expected, a lot of these were "0-posters". But there were also some that had some posts, and even a few that were in the hundreds. But if they haven't been here in a year, and we give them a chance by email.... Just some stuff to think about. Out of curiousity I did click on a few of the last posts, and ironically (or maybe not) a couple of them actually were posts telling how they had sold their SVX.

I mentioned this site to a friend. I talked to them later and they memtioned that they became a member so they could read some of the posts about the cars and to look at lockers. I mentioned that they did not have to become a member to just look around. They thought that they did. This may be why some people join. Maybe not.

Misuse of information
Quote:
Here in Ireland drawing up lists of people by their addresses and so on is covered by a strict Freedom of Information bill. This is in case the info is accessed by anyone who would misuse it, say for instance for targeted nuisance marketing, or to steal your car as already mentioned. Your US legislation is sure to be different, but if such legislation exists, you would need to take its provisions into account. Joe

Just for yuks, how about putting the question to a poll? I would be in favor of cutting some names who, 1. Have never posted & signed on over a year ago. 2. No response to e-mail. HOWEVER, there are (were?) some pretty active members, with say over 50 posts, that haven't been heard from in quite a while. Perhaps we should make a special effort to contact them & see if they want to remain here. Also, how many "paying" customers do we have? We haven't passed the hat around for a long time. How many new members even know that we have membership levels, & welcome $upport?
With regard to geography. This could also be a poll question, state by state. From there we could formulate regions. Ron.
