GMC Typhoon

Anybody ever heard of this, very limited production, super suv. It was built during the '91-93 model years. And, judging from the specs, this truck kicks a$$. It does 0-60 in 5.3secs and the quarter-mile in 14.1 secs. WoW!

Yeah, I remember when those came out, I was in highschool. I never got to ride in one but I have seen many cruising around, they're pretty sweet.

A guy around the corner had one. it had about 60,000 miles and was as rattly and unstable as any other blazer I've ever been in (and that has been about 6 of them)

Looks nice, but it goes in my "Lipstick on a pig" barrel.

To each their own.

Hence the name TRUCK. Whatever happened to those anyway? TRUCKS i mean. They seem to have been replaced by these cushy wimpy cars-with-truckbeds that they are trying to sell as TRUCKS. HA!

I know a guy who bought one of those. Fast as hell but a rattley POS. Very unreliable. It's hard to find a vehicle like that used that has not been highly abused by a power junkie.
The pickup version released first, called the Cyclone, was even quicker. If I recall they both used turboed versions of the Vortek 4.3L sixes. Based on the S10/S15 4WD chassis and lowered with a viscous center diff for AWD. For some reason 280HP is roughly what they had, as I can recall, but I could be way off on that.

you were right on the hp, C. Johnny. here's some more specs:

Typhoon:
280 hp, 350 ft-lbs
3822 lbs
0-60 mph 5.4 sec
topspeed 124 mph

Syclone:
283 hp, 350 ft-lbs
3599 lbs
0-60 mph 4.9 sec
topspeed 126 mph

impressive numbers, but one of my major peeves is a cheap, rattling interior. i could never own either of these rattle-boxes (and definitely wouldn't pay the $$$ that some of these vehicles go for.)

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.
