New(ish) wheels

Hooray, I finally got my hands on some wheels.

They are OEM RX-8 wheels and the size is 18x8 with a +50 offset and came with 1/2 life Potenzas for $600.

I will post a couple of pics when I get them on the car.

If I'm not mistaken, there is a couple of US members with them already.

They are indeed beautiful wheels. However, resist the temptation to improve on the original look.
What should have been gold metallic powdercoat ended up looking more like peanut butter.

Re: New(ish) wheels

Mate!.. so jealous.. those are the ones I'm after as well. good to know you'll be the guinea pig here tho. I think you need an adaptor to take up the slack from the different hub size?

Re: New(ish) wheels

It's about time I posted pics of the new wheels on the car ..................

The hub adaptor rings cost me a whole $10 each to be made up in Aluminium (Ewie, I will pick yours up this week) and I am currently running the 45 profile Potenzas that came with the wheels which has the side effect that according to my GPS and all of the "your speed is" signs around Wellington my speedo is now bang-on accurate.
If I stay with the 45 profile tyres I will probably look at getting some drop springs as the car is wee bit dune-buggy looking...............

Re: New(ish) wheels

Looks nice Marcus.. I was wondering about the tyres and comparative height etc.. Thanks again for being the guinea pig.

I sent mine in to be refurbished and will be picking them up next week all going well.. Then all I need are the adaptors

You'd have to lose the horrible Dunlop Direzzas from these ones.

Re: New(ish) wheels

Looks likie I'm picking my rims up from WRS Friday.. now have to decide what to do about tyres. The 225/45-18s that came with the wheeels are @ about 80% and in very good condition but theyre too narrow for the rims and dont provide any protection from curbe damage..

SO.. I'm looking at putting something slightly wider and the best option with the closest diameter is 245/35-18.. according to the charts I've looked at if my speedo is reading 100Kph.. I'll actually be doing 99.6Kph...

thoughts??

Re: New(ish) wheels

Finally got my wheels fitted the day before I was due to do a run up north to a job site.. here's some pics from the day.

Wheels were repaired and re-painted plus I fitted new 245/35-18 rubber... still thinking about the ride height. The rear sits nicely I think but the front could come down about an inch... maybe...

Thanks to Hairy for sorting out the hub spacer rings for me. Big thanks also to Mike for his beautiful car and the inspiration...
