Re: Longest amount of time without an issue on your SVX?

My '97 went the first ten years with nothing other than regular maintenance (lots of brakes haha) and a few dead batteries. But then at around 130k miles all hell broke loose and the car hasn't been the same since. It's had a lot of work in the last 3 years and needs a whole lot more, but I still love the car and won't get rid of it.

Re: Longest amount of time without an issue on your SVX?

got my 92 in october 2009, 3rd day i had to replace the entire cooling system because of an unknown timing belt failure. but other than that i haven't had an issue or a breakdown yet. i did have an ignition coil die causing a misfire, but i thought my mechanic forgot to put oil in my engine because i just let him change it, which freaked me out. wheel bearings were just a given, replaced at 95K.

i drive her to college every day, and i love it. :]

she could use new strut mounts, new CV joints, and a brand new stock tranny would make her perfect. but i get around. and love doing it. :]

just saying the stock stereo on this car really kicks if you buy some nice speakers. i put it to half way with my ipod and it hurts my ears.

Re: Longest amount of time without an issue on your SVX?

My 92 NZDM SVX was on about 230,000kms when I got it.
The few probs I had was the wee clip broke that held the window onto the wire for the electric windows.
Auto eventually started to slip badly.
Water pump sprung a leak so replaced that.
With auto packing up and It failed WOF on a few things so it got parked up.

My other 92 Alcyone SVX I didnt drive much. Only had 136,000kms on it.
Alarm played up and went crazy.
Diff bushing packed up aswell as the diff.
2 owners before me put lots of ICE into it.
But didnt do a good job. Wires were going every were. Wires rubbing against metal almost close to causing shorts & fires etc.

Re: Longest amount of time without an issue on your SVX?

When I got my Pearly, I replaced (enhanced?) so much of the car that it didn't have an opportunity to give me issues, save for a pair of wheel bearings, a loose baffle in the resonator and a rotted exhaust pipe.

After a good share of autocross days, I did manage to grenade the engine, but I don't know if that counts as a result of its (ab)use!

I've only got 3k miles on the Silver along with four race days, and the only trouble it's given me is that the gas tank keeps emptying out! We'll give it another try next year, as it'll probably be taking a winter nap by the end of this week.

Re: Longest amount of time without an issue on your SVX?

Before my SVX went, didn't have any issues. Bought it from Chike years ago. Main problem it had was a battery draining situation that involved my door lock switch staying 'on'. I didn't drive it daily. Actually, I hardly drove it at all because I didn't want it to have problems. Was perfect!

Only oil changes really since I purchased it years ago and some repairs Tom did.

Re: Longest amount of time without an issue on your SVX?

I've had mine about a month, but have only put 20 miles on it because it's needed a new radiator, spark plugs, air filter, brakes, pass. caliper, coolant sensor, maf sensor, driver wheel speed sensor and a pass. axle. All in all not a great car buying experience as the majority of the issues were unknown to me but I can see the light. Hopefully I can drive it tomorrow when I finish the radiator this evening. Then I get to tackle the axle, yay!
