Finally painted my SVX

Well, after a couple of months of procrastination and letting the SVX just sit in the garage half finished, I finally got it all done. It started because the drivers door had a ton of filler in it that started to crack and fall out, and it annoyed me. I figured I fix that and maybe start to think about painting the whole thing, and it just snowballed from there.

I did all the body and paint work myself, it's definatly not perfect, but at least I can say I did it (In a rental storage unit no less). The color is graphite grey metalic, from a Lexus IS300. The top is black, although the whole car looks black until you're really close and the sun is shining on it. Only then do you realize it's two toned. So here's a bunch of pictures.

Here she is bone stock the day I brought her home. She pretty much looked like this, just a little worse after the couple years I've driven it.

Door filler that had started to fall out

Drivers rear corner that was worse underneath than it originally looked

In the shop

Getting the jams done

Bumpers and side cladding and whatnot all hung up

Whole car in primer

Me! (hey, it's boring waiting for paint to flash all by yourself..)

Glossy stuff gettin sprayed

Just out of the shop

Re: Finally painted my SVX

I painted the wheels the same gunmetal color, but didn't use any clear coat. They pretty much look flat black, but when up close you can tell they're color matched to the body

And some final shots. My camera sucks, and it's a crappy location. I'll get my friend with her Nikon to come do some really nice shots someday, but for now this is all I got.

Kinda see the two tone in this pic

Other notes- Small car clear corners and grill. Both the corners and headlights I used Laminex tint on. Spoiler was deleted, windshield washers are shaved, taillight panel "SVX" is gone, and I think that's about it.

Looks fantastic. Great color choice too, I really like the subtle two tone look.

I think you're going to be in for quite a surprise when you turn on your rear wiper.

Re: Finally painted my SVX

The wiper is not in its resting spot, its on the end of its track in those pics. so if you turn it on as is, its going to get forked up as it will go straight into the trunk lid

Nah, it never parks in its proper spot. But it works just fine. I used it just 20 minutes ago .

Re: Finally painted my SVX

Nice job! What a difference from previous look! The colors being so similar cries out for something to delineate them. Just my $.02, but I'd think about some kind of pinstripe or other treatment to set them off. Nothing bright or gaudy, and the more I look at the pics it feels more like maybe a need to "marry" the colors together rather than to delineate, or separate them. Great looking car!!

Re: Finally painted my SVX

Definitely a different look for an SVX. I wouldn't do it. A bit too stealthy for me, but I do like it.

Re: Finally painted my SVX

Looks really good. I'm a fan of the blackness theme! (look at my car)

And the tint on the corners and headlights looks good, I'd like to do that on my own after seeing yours!

No such thing as too stealth for me! Ha, but really I just love the understated dark look. Here's how I painted my bike, which I actually do call my little stealth bomber. Its a Chrysler black with a bunch of copper pearl added. All flat, no clear coat.
