Re: subaru key

If it's an original key it will have a code stamped on it. The Subaru dealer can use this code to cut a new key for you.

If you don't have the key, some dealer can look it up by VIN.

They say that the key code is also stamped on the mechanism in the door, but I've never seen that.

Re: subaru key

If all else fails, you can get a new ignition cylinder for about $35 shipped off rockauto if I remember correctly. You can then have a locksmith change the tumblers inside the door, trunk, and glove box locks if you choose. Or use 2 keys. I currently have 2 svx that use 2 separate keys and the one that I just picked up to fix for someone local also uses 2 keys. So its not really too big of a deal.

Re: subaru key

It would be even less of a problem if the security fob is used.

The key code is, in fact, stamped on the lock mechanism inside the passenger door.

You may find it easier to simply have the dealer look it up with your vin when they make you the key. If the dealership that originally sold your SVX did their job, the key code should be in the star system.

It won't cost you any more, and it's a lot easier than taking apart your door!
