Would imagine the only people that recommend replacing all the fluid every year would be the people that sell it!

Didnt read this in time...... I would use the entire jug first, then top off whats left with the year-old stuff.

That's exactly what I did. The old Subaru coolant was the green stuff, and the jug of Subaru coolant I grabbed at work was the new super coolant which is blue. I figured they could be mixed together since there both Subaru.

Ooh I didnt know that, they say you're not supposed to mix them...... not dangerous or anything but it supposedly negates the extended life protection of the super-coolant. I think it would be kinda cool to have all blue coolant though.

What was the thermostat like? Another board member recently got a new Subaru thermostat, it is very small & cheap looking made of thin brass. It looked to be nowhere near the quality of the original or even as good as the cheap aftermarket ones?? It did have the "fuji swoosh" stamped on it though??

Update: It hasn't overheated since the thermostat was replaced but now the coolant is filling up past the full in the overflow tank and not draining out back into the radiator. I no for a fact there isn't a blockage in the hose or tank as I cleaned them really good. So know I ordered a new radiator cap so hopfully this solves the problem.

contraction leak might also be worth while but they are hard to troubleshoot. Need a cooling system Vac/filling tool but even then finding the issue is tough. Didn't you have that engine diagnosed with a HG failure a while back?

No i never had it diagnosed for a HG fail as it didn't eat coolant, no oil contamination, white smoke.

p.s. My subie mech at work said the rad cap could be froze where the little silver circle on the bottom lets the fluid back in the rad.

They rarely do. Typical HC leak will push coolant out of the overflow and leave a large amount of gas in the radiator.
