New member with a new dream

So i'm about to buy my first SVX.
If I don't get this one ill get another when I save up enough to make sure repairs won't prevent me from getting to work! Here's the car now.

I've wanted one as long as I can remember.

And this is what it will look like once i'm done with it

What do you think? I know a body shop that can do the paint job just like that for $800, good friends and a top of the line job.

Looks and sounds good. Where is this paint shop? What do you get for a $800 paint job?

Re: New member with a new dream

Purist's will have a ball with the colors, but I won't beat you up for it.
We all likes to have what we likes to have. So I would have to say, have fun with it, and drive it safe.
Most vehicles will serve any driver well for a long time, if you take care of what you have.

I have never thought of SVX as an odd car, or a Novelty. But when you drive something that you just don't see on the road very much, and nobody else does for that matter, you just have to appreciate it that much more.

I came up on a car at a red light the other day, and took the time to look at the rear light layout {diagonal}, and the overall car before looking at the markings. It was just sad. When I looked at the makers mark, my heart sunk.
The Lincoln that I was looking at turned into a Maserati. I like Maserati, but at that moment I felt very sick.

i know the purists will be upset with me for it, but its paint job isn't fairing too well, and I figure if i'm going to paint it it wont be the original anyway :P

Re: New member with a new dream

I have thought about getting a black car, and painting it a nice dark blue, like the new '10 Shelby GT500's real nice navy-blue color... the paint color name is escaping me at the moment.

But I would probably stick to blue body, black roof and trunk/spoiler. The SVX never struck me as a car that suits "racing stripes". It isn't a sharply angular car, or a nostalgic design that suits those.

I also quite like Laguna Blue, an SVX actual color, and World Rally Blue, another Subaru paint choice... and I like SVXs with black roofs, and moderately tinted windows for the canopy look. Just not feelin' the stripes.

Re: New member with a new dream

I think its the odd blue V in the grille along with the stripes that throw me off. Stripes could possibly work on this car but I think they need to be placed a little better. Running half into the grill half headlight makes it look out of line.

Theres someone with a white SVX with decals on it that are backwards on the other side of the car, not sure if its on here but its on CarDomain for sure. I like the decals and stripes on it because they follow the lines of the fender and what not. I'd find something to accent and accent it. Maybe one single one that goes from the grill up, or just move the those two over so they line with the headlights, maybe keep them where theyre but end them half way round off or in kidney shape so hey dont continue all the way to the end of the hood. Thats just my .02

Re: New member with a new dream

there is the laguna blue one around the board with white racing stripes...kinda reminds me of the viper...crazy wing on it too..white wheels.. (I secretly like it) Racing stripes certainly can be done.

As far as the black out headlights, I would recommend looked at the headlight protectors group buy going on (shamless, I know). That way you could remove the tint when driving, the only legal way to do this.

I personally really really like the grill, and would very seriously like to see the results of you making one. I have not been impressed with most aftermarket home made attempted grills. Yours looks nice, though I dont know your fabricating abilities....

+1 for ditching the V. Doesn't go anywhere....

if that is the car I think it is do a carfax on it before you buy it. It looks a lot like the one I was going to go see but came back as a salvage car.
