Hydra EMs progress and information.

Hi Folks,

I just got off the phone with Andrew Nam down at Hydra USA and had a lengthy discussion with him on producing a plug and play EMS system for the EG33. After talking with him about my kit car project and future production he is 110% definitely on board with this project.

The only information he needs to start a baseline is some scope wave forms of the EG33 crank position in relation to the cam angle sensor. He also needs scope wave forms on the cam angle sensor in relation to injector #1 and coilpack #1 at TDC for cylinder #1. This must all be done running and at idle. With that information, he can build and program an EMS to work with the EG33 motor. This does not take care of the TCU issue getting the needed signals from the stock ECU for it to operate the sutomatic properly, but that can be overcome fairly easy and he's willing to work on that in the future once the system is up and running. For the MT swapped folks running boost, or kit car buzz using these motors elswhere, this is a sure fire deal.

Basically what the trigger reluctor looks like, where it's referenced at TDC#1 and where INJ + CP #1 fire off on the reluctor(which tooth/slot)..

I have a complete EG33/Harness/ECU however I have no way of making it run right now to get this information on a scope. Soooooo, hopefully there is someone here with a scope handy that can pull this needed information.

Andrew said that some, if not all, of this information may be readily available in the factory SVX repair manuals from the dealers. I don't have one of those handy, but if someone does and can sift through it, or allow me to borrow if for reading, we might be able to pull this off rather quick.

He says once he has that info, 3-4 weeks and an EMS is avail able. If the signal happens to be relatively close to an EZ30 or 30R then 1 week Guy works quick.

Feel free to post question/information/comments here. Information specs would be the best

-Adam

Adam,
You realize you'll have to fabricate an engine dyno harness next

That's the easy part, I can run right up to Moon and work with Seth to get that done. I like wiring. I leave all this techy computer stuff to the wizards and do the techy mechanical stuff myself

Seriously hardcore, who here would be willing to drop $15-$1700 on a Hydra EMS for their car knowing it would work outright no questions asked. This would be a version 2.6 which according to Andrew is slated for release in the next couple months anyway.

Wow, was just about to ask about price...

Then I saw that number. I think I died a little inside. Sorry man, not happening. With that kind of money, the new tranny's coming first.

Good luck though! I'll be drooling in the corner, lurking and watching all the posts, like I do in the "turbo options for EG33" thread.

The improvements are only limited by your capabilities to modify and tune your car.....

This is a complete standalone replacement ECU that allows full control over all engine parameters for tuning, including boost control and a few user defined outputs, like methanol injection or whatever else.

$15-$1700 is a good chunk of change don't get me wrong, but in the world of standalone EMS system that have comparable capabilities as the Hydra Nemesis, it's cheap.

I'm doing this for myself and my company in with Hydra....you guys are just going to benefit from the end result with a EG33 compatible EMS right out of the box. If I can get a couple people here to buy this, it just helps Andrew out at Hydra and just encourages him even more, that's all.

For the money, I'm assuming a complete plug & play setup, harness included?

For that kind of cash, there are a few users here that are reverse-engineering the stock ECU in a semi-open source format.

I DO like the idea of tuning "on the fly" that likely can't be done with the stock ECU. I have to admit the thread on that is all g(r)eek to me

Not saying that I am planning to buy or anything, but that is a decent price and would be in the budget of those who want fast over finicky. I have used a tec2 in the past and it was OKish, but the tec3 is out and about the same price as that Hydra unit. I'm glad you went for it and are making this happen.

It great to see someone taking on this project!

So the basic idea is to provide tune-ability for those modifying their cars right?

Something to consider is the stock SVX MAF. This part is only capable of reading airflow to about 250HP. ECUTune stage 2 uses the Z32 MAF from the 300ZX twin turbo, which I think is good to the 500HP ballpark.

Not a true complete engine harness, but a sub one that directs into the four factory ECU connectors. You do get the PC tuning harness and software obviously I'll more than likely hardwire mine into the harness as is anyway as I'm thinning out the main harness here from the crap that's not needed.

There are things on the Hydra that the OEM ECU cannot do:

-Electronic boost control
-P&H and Saturated injector control
-Speed density mapping(no MAF/MAS upgrades needed)with included 3 bar MAP sensor
-Internal turbo timer function
-Fuel compensating knock control(doesn't just adjust/pull ignition timing)
-Antilag for those who'd need it
-The ability to trim fuel and ignition per cylinder...not only as a complete map.
-A host of variable user defined outputs
-Closed loop WBO2 automap function
-Closed loop WBO2 STFT/LTFT function
-Instant switchable auxilary fuel/ign maps in both standard and antilag formats for different tracks/conditions/race fuel/etc...

A similar Autronic/Motec/OBR setup would run you in the $2500-$4000 range.

I'm just glad I can help you guys out in this sense and provide another option for you to use if it's ever needed.

The Hydra Nemesis has Speed Density tuning as an option using a built in 3 bar MAP pressure sensor. There's no need for MAF upgrades as you remove the MAF altogether in that configuration You're only limited in that tuning setup to 30psi max. Upgrading and reprogramming to a 4bar map allows 45 psi.

WOOT!!! Me likey!

At this point I don't need tune-ability, but if I did need it I would be onboard with this right away. I think you'll have good success with the big mods guys.

Will there be a certain number of buyers needed to get this going?

Hmmmm...... Where is patterson, ny? I may have to drive down some time in the spring... I would like to stick with my stock ECU for as much hp as I can, but if I keeping hitting roadblocks with the ECU pulling timing and whatnot. I would def drop $1700 for this if it is plug and play and gives me better control of my set up....

got the rest, but what is '-Antilag for those who'd need it'???
Are you talking about turbo aps here? Altered timing to a super late degree allowing turbo spool while off the gas, rally style?
