Bah, you're soft! I bought mine without driving one, without getting in one, and without being within four hours' travel of it!

EDIT: OK, I drove it before I paid for it, but it was as good as sold before I left my house to go get it.

The first time I sighted an SVX was in a mall parking lot as it went by ( what the ?!). I turned around and followed it and then went and ogled it when the owner departed. I then searched out an article in a car mag to see what it was all about and was thoroughly intrigued. After that I developed a sixth sense whenever one was in the immediate vicinity that would snap my head around to view it. At that time, like many, they were waaaay out of my price range.
The in the spring of 05', I spotted one in a Volvo dealer lot. I was working out of town at the time, but every time I came back in I looked for it. Finally I sold the newer SUV I owned to buy it. The dealer wanted an outrageous sum for it. I managed to knock about 3 1/2G off his asking price, but still payed too much.
I knew from the start it would be a project car, but I can't think of a better car to sink some bucks into to restore and customize than an SVX.
But yes, it was love at first sight. The car still has that effect on people. Just the other day some 16 yr. old kid in the back seat was absolutely doing gyrations when his family pulled up beside me. Even guys in exotics pull up beside me and just stare - the SVX has a definite allure.

I can top that, I think?

I bought my first SVX in 2000, sold it in 2004. Before I bought it I had not ever seen one. I had not sat in one, I had not driven one. I bought it from a website in Japan, and imported it to Ireland. [they were never sold here new]

If you ask people what their first internet purchase was, they are likely to tell you a CD, a book from Amazon or maybe concert tickets. My first internet purchase was a car. An SVX. From Japan.

Love at first sight from a great distance.

Joe

I bought mine from some A$$clown fool off the internet in Jan 07. I had never seen, touched, driver or even heard of a SVX until I got mine. So, I have owned mine for 8 months. I have driven it about 2k (or less?) miles in the less than 3 months it has been running. I have spent 2x what I bought the car for (just fixing it) and can't wait to get it slide-ways before going airborne just like the day before I last drove it (June 10th?). It's not quite M3 fun, but I love the SVX.

I've always been intrigued by them and loved the body style. I even went to the Dragon meet this year in my 89 XT where we were outnumbered by SVX's. And I didnt even sit in one or get a ride My fault tho, I never asked But I did get a ride in Hucks Frakenwedge Now thats a ride But today was the big day! I finally got mine running and drove it around the block. Dropped into 1st gear and romped on it. WOOT!
Damn, they are hard to stop tho

I ended up with Road Demon in October of 2004. It was by pure chance, timing and luck that I got it and I haven't regretted it one second since.

Just voted for my Teal one < 7 years.

To be exact,
My teal one : 08172001 from DC, 3rd owner
My yellow one: 03152005 from NY state, 4th owner

I cant believe I love these cars for that long. Both still run decently.

Actually...been looking for 8 months then I bought my teal one. Was at yahoo SVX club for a good while. I can't believe I'm still here and this is my 2000th post and member # 301, reported.

/me concedes.

Kinda peculiar that a car can sell without having been experienced!

It was not necessarily a wise thing to do. I was banking on the fact that the Japanese are intrinsically honest and correct in their descriptions of cars for sale. This is certainly true in the auction system they use.

As it happened, when the car arrived in Dublin there were so many problems I was almost in tears.

With the help of Harvey and many on this Network, I fixed all problems, and the car was utterly reliable and well worth the trouble.

Would I do it again?

Yesss

I only read about them online (thanks to Gavin's glorious description of his SVX), then i found one for sale online in California (I was living in Oklahoma at the time) I flew out there, bought it, and drove it 26 hours straight back home without ever having seen one, been in one, driving one or anything :P

Foolish I know, it could have gone badly, but it was one of those things that just fell into place perfectly...like fate.

I bought my Ebony in July of '04, the '95 in April/May of '05, and the pearly in April of this year. I bought the Ebony off Ebay then drove the 7 hours to the other side of Dallas to pick it up, I had never even been in an SVX before that. The closest I had been to one before that was sneaking up to Skips SVX while it was parked at his house one day.
