JDM rev limit with low fuel!!!

Hiya Guys,

I found something else quirky today!

Coming back from Liverpool I was touch and go a bit on fuel and as always couldnt help myself with the annoying Vectra an inch of the rear bumper at 90, classic Mr Rep! so showed him who was the car in front and its not a Toyota

Anyway, fuel light had been on for around 10 miles, more than its ever seen before as I was trying to get back to my shell station for a tank of optimax, I thought the car was running out of fuel as the cruise control turned off and then no power light!

Basically the car would not rev to over 3500rpm in any gear even when I left the motorway for the mile or so to the garage, there was no hesitation or stuttering, just like a low rev limitor, £50 of fuel later and pulled out the garage all as it should be

Another hidden marvel from the Japanese?????

Darren.

If this is the case on USDM versions I will need to figure out how to enable it with a hidden button. Keep Valets and garages from beating the hell out of my SVX.

I know you can buy a rev-limiter from a place like MSD Ignition. A friend of mine had one and you can switch out different chips for different RPM limits. It was a pretty neat thing.

I have never encountered that one Darren.

The idea of a valet mode sounds tempting. Maybe yours has this, and it switches in if the fuel light is on?

It sounds non-standard anyway. I have never seen any post about this behaviour before, either UK or US.

Maybe you could check out if it would repeat the performance, with a spare can of petrol in the boot?

Exclamation Fueling fine

Interesting, if my svx had this fitted I doubt my wife would ever get to work! I have never seen a car driven for so long with next to no petrol, 'I mean light on and neddle way below red line'. I have gone down to get petrol in a can just to allow me to drive a mile back to top it up.

Hiya Joe,

There are no switches hidden anywhere that would activate a rev limit, I have spent plenty of time on my back under the dash doing the speedo conversion and speed delimit.

It will be 2 or 3 weeks before I get that low again, but sure I will give it a go! If it breaks and does not go again i'm sure you will pop over and sort it for me lololol

I drove it in 1st, 2nd, etc & as soon as the 3500rpm line was reached in any gear it was a fuel cut or electronic limit that kicked in. Power could not be switched on nor manual or cruise, I filled up, started up, power light came back on (as like u I always have it turned on) and everything was back as nornal.

Bloody amazing idea !!!

Darren

Mine has never done this.

I have however noticed a rev limit of zero when the fuel actually runs out.
