Smallcar shift kit question

I just installed my shift kit and the first few times I started the car all was well, But now the power light is blinking on startup and I have no 3rd gear engine braking. The connections are good and everything and I remember seeing a thread about this problem, But couldn't seem to track it down quickly. What's the fix for this?

Too much resistance or an open circuit.

if you have the adjustment cranked all the way down then back it off a turn and try again to fix the no braking in 3rd

I haven't adjusted it yet, I just threw it in today. I have a 15 ohm resistor in right now, Should I use a 10 maybe?

Did you just receive the kit? I have a thread about my blinky light....I ordered a new tranny resistor....I also have the shift kit.

The two things may not be related. Do you have the new version or an older version?

If you have the old version with three prongs, then your 3rd gear issue is that you have the wires going to the wrong prongs.

The blinking power light is definately a resistor issue.

I got this off a friend of mine and it only has 2 prongs with a resistor soldered on between the two. I have a homemade 15 ohm resistor for a tranny resistor and it's always worked fine before. Like I said, It was fine the first few times I started it after installing the kit, But now I have a blinking power light. I know it is working though because I can feel the difference in the shifts. I'll go out and try to troubleshoot in a little while. It's kinda cold out and it's slowing me down.

What you are feeling is the same effect as an open circuit.

Yes, Your absolutely right. What seems to be happening is when I put the wires back together without the shift kit all is fine, But the light won't stop blinking on start up till I cycle it through the gears and then shut it off and restart it. When I hook the shift kit back up, All seems to be fine through many start ups until I mash the throttle once while it's running, Then on the next start up the light is blinking again and won't stop till I unhook the shift kit.

I'm thinking I need to adjust it to need more throttle to open the switch. Any advice? I've checked all my connections and played with this and that and now I'm going to try adjusting the shift kit. If that doesn't work I'm kinda stuck.

OK, I tried adjusting the switch to no avail. What's happening is if I start it up and the power light doesn't blink, I rev the engine once and shut it off and when I restart it I have a blinking power light. If I let it finish blinking and just let it idle then shut it off and restart it again the light will not blink. It seems to be going into fault mode when I rev the throttle and it stops reading the resistor until I restart it a time or two, So I'm guessing my 15 OHM resistor is a tad too much for it when the high side of the switch kicks in on the shift kit. I guess I'll get a 10 OHM resistor tomorrow and try that unless anybody has some other ideas.

OK, I tried a stock resistor to no luck at all. Sometimes when I start it the light doesn't flash, and other times it does. I also still have no 3rd gear engine braking at any time. I guess the next thing to check will be the resistance on the shift kit for the high and low points of the switch. any suggestions?

With the proper resistance it will take 2 start cycles before it stops flashing an error code.

Yes, I guess that would be considered 2 start cycles. The first one where it flashes and the second where it doesn't. I'm thinking the high side of the switch is jacked and I need a new one.

I haven't had a chance to check it out yet due to working on the new SVX and trying to get it prepped to start up.

Ok, Time to revive this one. I tried using both resistor wires on the shift kit and neither way made a difference. I tested the resistance on the shift kit and it makes 1.1 OHMS with no vacuum and 670 OHMS with. Are these specs correct? I'm using a stock resistor and everything, But I can't make this stupid thing work right. Anybody have some experience with this?

I put in much time on technical aspects this thing when it was being developed. I have noted that there has been a succession of queries recently. It is time for the supplier who has been the winner, to front up.
