Shifter wont budge from "P"
Started the car, pushed the brake pedal, pushed the main shifter button, but couldn't get it out of "P". I did not hear the solenoid clicking to release the shifter either. I had to use the shift lock release thingi (pain in the a$$ on 94 and up models) to shift out of park.
My brake lights work, so i guess its not an issue with the switch connected to the brake pedal. Question is, where is the solenoid that releases the shifter ? I've read its under the center console, but anybody know where exactly it is and how i can get to it ? Thanks RB |

There is a switch that connects to the shifter, I had to jump 2 or the wires on it to get the key to release when I did the 5-speed swap...might be the way to fix it...the description of those wires are in the write up in my sig...

I had the same shift lock problem and eventually got fed up with always having to use two hands to shift out of park so I bought a used shift lock module on Ebay for like 10 bucks and spent 15 minutes installing it...problem fixed permanently. It's located under the center console by the E-brake handle.
