Did "E" ever post anything more about his brakes? I was just searching through the various forums about the compstibilty of STi hubs, brakes, etc and found this. Anybody ever hear from him anymore?

My Mov'it front kit is installed and works great. I had to go with 17' wheel with a 40mm offset. The inside diameter of the stock wheel cleared the calipers no problem, but not even close to clearing the inside face of the wheel. I will take some pics tomorrow. Even with the 40mm offset wheels it is quite a tight fit, as you will see.

Movit pics.

Here's some Movit pics. Notice how close it is even with a 40' offset.

Current STi (05-06) hubs, although a 5x114.3 PCD, retain the 25mm upright to shock width. SVXs are 30mm.

However, my current thinking is to upgrade to pre-Brembo STi brakes. These were 4 piston fronts and 2 piston rears.

For the fronts, I plan to machine down the SVX disc to about 294mm in diameter (down from 301mm) then bolt on the 4 pots to the front as the caliper spacing is the same I think.

For the rear, upgrade to Lexus LS400 rears discs with the 2 piston rears bolted on again.

That's the theory...untested at this stage.

I'm a very visual person, does anyone have a pic of this 30mm space? Also, with some machining couldn't we create a bracket?

Visualise where the upright bolts to the strut. It's two very big bolts going through teh strut, then the upright, then out the strut again holding your front end together.

I actually think WRX corners might be a winner...but I haven't had the chance to measure ball joint differences. With the swap to WRX uprights, you'd get the WRX brakes, the WRX strut selection (admittedly with probably custom made tops, or you might get lucky and find they fit) and then you'd be good to go.

My problem is I've committed to a 5x114.3 PCD, so WRX corners are not so attractive.

Hub swap might work though? Swap the SVX hubs into the WRX uprights...getting pretty messy though.

The stock brakes are not that bad. It is not untill you are really going fast that a BIG upgrade is needed. Get some good pads, some stainless lines, good fluid, and a nice set of slotted rotors and you are good to go. Untill you are consistantly hitting the brakes at 100+mph on a track then the stock brakes are fine with these upgrades. I have learned the hard way by testing them and my brakes kick ass.

I agree with Tom. I have cross drilled, kevlar pads, SS lines, and synthetic fluid. They work great. I don't know about fade at high speed, but I've had to stop suddenly to miss an owl, and the stop remided me of the first Batman movie stop. Remember that?

But Tom, aren't we going to need bigger brakes soon?

I tried different rotors and pads, kvr, etc, on my 92, and the brakes would allways be pulsating in no time. Maybe it's a wheel bearing issue?

Are those stock rotors on the Mov'it brakes? They look really good. How many pots? I love the bleed point. Easy to access.

I probobly SHOULD get bigger brakes making the kind of power I have now. But I still think my brakes are extrememly good. I finally stopped buying the cheap rotors and went with the race concepts and I actually chumped up to get all the SS lines and good fluid. I also went with a set of good ceramic pads which really work well when you get them hot. Bigger would be nice but until I find the failing me (probobly next season when I run a track like pocono or summit) I will stick to my current setup.
