Seriously, though. It is just Digital Phone service used over the Internet. Eliminates your local phone company and replaces it with an Internet phone company.

I have never had an issue with call quality. If you have the Linksys router, you can control bandwidth to the LAN allowing you to keep clarity with any downloads.

I'm saving a ton over SBC's business service and I get all the cool stuff. Web voice mail retrieval, called ID, forwarding, call waiting, nationwide calling. All the stuff I couldn't afford with SBC.

??? I didn't see where I could control bandwidth to the LAN. Besides, I have it behind my firewall and not inbetween it and the internet router. That linksys is retarded, it won't pickup the static ip from the cable modem company so I statically assigned one to it. Then I had to open the ports on my firewall and direct traffic to the linksys, but Vonage didn't list all the ports needed to make a return connection. Sure it would authenticate fine, but I'm sure there's a few more ports other than:

DNS
TFTP
RTP
NTP
SIP

to complete the connection.

So eventually I just restricted access and threw it on my DMZ and left it there.

I also have it in my DMZ, but I was playing with it a little from the manual. There is a section where you can choose the quality and according to the manual that invokes the bandwidth allocation between the bandwidth reserved for voip and the internal ports.

Here is a great resource for Vonage techies.

It has lots of tips, tricks, and a few h^cks.

The company says it can be wired into the house/apartments phone box so it will run on all the jacks you have, however they won't tell you how to do it, and say if you mess something up, it's your problem. If your in a small apt (or small house) it isn't an issue.
With the cable company set up, all the jacks work with the system and they installed it, so if there is a problem, they have ot take care of it.
Here's a discussion about connecting multiple phones:

Interesting. Vonage had a hickup today. Between the hours of 5:30pm to 6:00pm(i went out) and i couldn't dial out. I would get a busy signal. What was amusing was that the call did take place but it was 3 minutes after I got the busy signal. Wonder if this is just an isolated incident.
