Any suggestions on good mp3 players?

Flash or microdrive/harddrive?

ipod or something else?

anyone who recommends mp3car.com is going to be quartered, chained, and dragged across the country.

i'm looking for something to carry with me when i go places. thanks!

iPods have a built in life cycle. The battery is designed to last for up to two years. It can't be replaced (well, without surgery and soldering). Apple's official statement on the subject was "The iPod will have an adequate life span. The customer will choose to upgrade to the newer model before the current battery life has ended."

BTW: Have you considered MP3Car.com?

Seriously, though. The Iriver H10 is a nice unit.

My friend has one. The headphones it comes with sound fantastic.

hmmm...i'll look into that.

i don't mind the ipod much, but however i don't like the 2 year lifespan. i'm one of those people that's probably still using those old sony portable cd players from 10 years ago.

also i'm not a big fan of installing worthless software on my computer. maybe that's the reason my box has been clean without antivirus software.

i have all my music grouped into folders based on artist. all i want to do is move them onto the flash drive like any external media storage unit and then have the reader play it from that file structure. i'm currently using a pda w/1gb SD flash card to play mp3's but tthe battery life of the pda just doesn't cut it. pocket pc can go to hell with bill gates. all this thing's barely good for is playing mp3's....what a waste.

i'd say check out mp3.com

i have a 40Gb Creative Labs Zen Jukebox ($230), and they also have a 60Gb version ($260). why pay $500 for an ipod?

it has its own special battery, but it is *removeable*. the software is easy to use, too. when i rip a CD to the player, it also rips it to my hardrive as well, so my CD collection is backed on on my PC, too.

it doesn't have voice memos or games, but i don't need that crap.

i'll check out creative too. thanks for the input.

since you're a fellow metalhead, i assume the music's output is loud enough to go deaf.

i don't need games or memo's. i just want music, maybe a fm radio for news flashes, voice memo maybe a nice feature to have, but not required.

i was thinking of recording all the meetings that i go to on some media to use against people who try to BS me

then just get a voice recorder for like $50, and you still save $200 over a disposable ipod.

who would try to BS you!

Hes looking for portable.

I have an iRiver H120. I love it and would recommend it with no reservation to anybody. Its a tad pricy, but mine has served me very very well for the 8 mos I've had it so far.

...snip.
So with a couple of speakers, an Optima batttery and a handtruck - what's not portable?

BTW, here's a 30GB model for $219 and factory warranty from Crutchfield - they're not always cheapest, but IMHO great customer service.

Oh, and don't forget mp3.com

hey thanks for the tips guys. i'll definitely check those out. i've been reading all those damn reviews, but as you know you can't trust all the crap you read on the internet.

all i want is something easy to use without troublesome software, decent storage, good quality, durable, and with decent battery life.

it's alot to ask, i know, i know, but you know i was reading on mp3car.com...

Yeah, check out iRiver, I've only heard good things...
I'm thinking about getting an H10 myself when they come out.

i have to say i've been pretty pleased with my overpriced iPod for the past 15 months. it will only play for about an hour an full charge with the backlight on though. thankfully, i'm never in a situation where it's not being powered.
