Question Do I need new rear struts?

Whenever I go over a speed bump in a perpendicular fashion (not diagonally, in other words), I get a nice stereo *squeak* from the rear of the car. It usually only squeaks when both sides of the rear are receiving some kind of shock load. I'm thinking that all these frickin' cobblestone streets here in Seattle are tweaking with my car.

Any ideas?

Squeak might just be dry sway bar bushings. Might want to try lubing them with some oil that is ok for rubber. The bushings are easy to reach without jacking up the car.

Well that's good to hear. Can suspension lubes be found at auto parts stores?

Did I ever mention that I'm a suspension idiot? I understand what the different parts and components are, and know the general purpose of most of them, but I have no idea how to troubleshoot or tune them. Just not my forte, I suppose.

So, Mychailo... What can you do for my FWD SVX's suspension? Eh, eh? Perhaps we should get together and talk cars soon - you and I both being in WA and all. Um, I could buy you beer? Or dinner? I've actually got a load of questions to ask you about suspension, the exhaust tuning that you keep toying with, and your 5-speed. T'would be much easier in person, if you don't mind. PM me, perhaps.

I would also diagnose that as dry sway bar bushings. Mine used to have sort of a EEEEE-ERRRRR sound, especially when the car was cold.

Make a sound file of you doing that and post it

I'm sure all the NWSVX group would love to hear what Mychailo has to say about suspension. Maybe we can get together and buy him lunch and dinner ?

If it'd be any help, I could post what we've chatted about in suspension-related PMs... I don't think it would benefit many people though, as most of it is about the handling in my FWD SVX. Apparently, the AWD models tend to understeer, but mine definitely oversteers.

He sounds a little apprehensive about heading out to western WA... We could all truck over towards the east side for a nice little meet. Shall we, guys?
