Cheap places to live in the NW?

I'm just throwing ideas arround, and while I love where I am I may need to move, I'd like to find someplace with a 12 car garage for under $150,000... Is it a pipe dream? Of course then there is the issue of transporting 12 or so cars

I think that transporting the cars is the least of your search.

Is there a certain area that you want to move to?

If you move to Richland, WA, I guarantee you can find a house with a two car garage for under $150k. You might not be able to find a job and hate the area though. :-)

12 car garage

Earl, not looking for anything specific as far as area, but intro houses run $450,000 here

well....in the Seattle, Tacoma, Everett and all points in-between, figure $300k for a nice intro house. A friend just bought a fixer upper in Kirkland (nice area) for $280k.

If you are willing to go north (say Marysville/Arlington area) starter homes drop to around $180-220k.

But $150k plus a 12 car garage? Have you tried Montana?

how much?

Napa,

In this area "50 mile radius" you could get acreage and a pole building "for cars" plus a nice double wide modular in a country setting for 150k or scantly more. Jobs here are sparse... but there's lots of girls.

Peach-

That's high on the list, are there many construction jobs? I plan on trying to get a job as a long haul trucker for a few years, but I'd like to get a friend to live in it so it dosn't stay empty all the time, and I want to stay away from modular, but a fixer is fine, and I can build the barn if needed.

what type of construction?
Residential - quite a bit of development going on here
Commerical - again, quite a bit
Municipal - not as much as in the late 90's, but still going good

Overall, I don't think the construction industry has as much work now as in the late 90's, but its better than in other parts of the state.

I know that most engineers, surveyors and architects in the Seattle-Tacoma-Everett area are very very busy, so unless Boeing and Microsoft go bankrupt, I really don't think finding a job related to construction should be too hard.

I doubt I'd live in the Seattle area, to expensive for my taste, I can always move later... Looking at Realtor.com it seems I can find what I want for arround $100,000 or less in the Spokane area, then drop another $50,000 into remodeling and a shop/barn building.

Well if you go to the Spokane area, construction pretty much shuts down in the winter time....too much snow and too darned cold!
