For those with a Valentine 1

I just discovered this on the Valentine One website. They finally posted how to program it! I can now get rid of the annoying x-band indicator that keeps going off when I pass by shopping malls (the cops here only use K and Ka bands).

I have the escort passport 8500 and absolutely love it. I've heard some bad things about the valentine one.......it received praises when it first came out but then dimenished.

How has your experience been with the v1?

I don't have any experience with the 8500 (or personally know anybody who has one), so I can't really compare the two. The V1 and the Passport 8500 are at the top of every comparision I have seen. The V1 has saved my bacon several times and I really like it. I bought a V1 about 5 years ago. I held onto it for 3 years and sold it for almost what I paid for it on ebay. Then I bought another V1 with the smaller case and upgrade technology. After all transactions were complete, I ended up paying about $50 for the upgrade. Whatever you think of them, they hold their value well.

My biggest complaint was that I couldn't program it to get rid of the x-band. The CHP and Nevada police don't use x-band anymore so it's not doing me any favors when it goes off. Now that they posted how to program it, it will be even better.

I'm not sure of the price of the 8500, but the V1 is pretty expensive. That's the biggest drawback to buying one.

I've had nothing but great performance from mine. Excellent range, and the multiple sensors and signal-direction indicators are a very useful feature. Like nordique14 said, the biggest drawback to the V1 is the price.

I have the Passport 8500. It works great, was easy to buy (didn't have to be mail ordered), and has saved me many times. But, next time I'm getting a Valentine. I want to know whether the cop is in front of me or behind! I didn't think it mattered, but I find myself wondering everytime it goes off........WHERE IS HE??

I agree. That was one feature in the valentine I really liked. I liked how it had to be physically installed into the vehicle simply because of the fact you know you're protected regardless of where the physical detector is mounted.

I did notice with the Passport that if the cop is infront of you you will get tones with long duration, as you get closer to the cop the tone pulses become fast. If the cop's behind you you'll seem to get a loud fast tone right away.

Sweet! I'm turning off my X-band tomorrow! I drive around a lot of strip malls, and stores...and the x-band always pisses me off when I drive past a door.

Good find!

As soon as I got my Passport I turned off X band. It really makes a huge difference!
