Backwards Wheels!?
They F'ed up at Discount when I got my new tires. Now my back two wheels are on the wrong sides (backwards). My friend insists the back way looks better but I think they should be orientated the stock way (front).
I couldn't find any old forums on this so what do you guys think? Whatever I decide I'm going to get them to fix it when I get them rotated in 5000 miles. Any non-SVX owner wouldn't notice anything was wrong.

5000 miles??? Dude, they F'ed up. Take the car back in, drag the manager out, and ask him if he sees anything wrong? Then get your wheels on the way you want them. You may think that no non-SVX'ers would notice, but you never know. Would you really want some ricer punk rollin' up next to you in his Civic only to tell you your wheels are on wrong?

Yeah, because what he said would be......terrible..
its been my experience that usually ricer civic owners never have matching wheels...maybe 1 rim and 2 of the black spare tire rims...lol...gotta buy your rims 1 at a time.... |

Actually, I wouldn't drive it. Either all forward, or all backward. Even Subaru couldn't decide. See the SUBARU sketch in the Road and Track SVX Guide showing back-bent spokes. At least when SUBARU decided, they put a L on the left side wheels so the tire changers could get the wheels going the same direction on each side of the car. SHOW THEM THE MARKING, AFTER FOLLOWING DARKSIED-X'S ADVICE WITH THE MANAGER. Honestly, I watch them like a hawk, they would have messed mine up last time if I didn't point it out. EVERYONE will notice your wheels, but only a SVX junkie will notice if both are backward. I guess we can't really blame the tire-changers, it's not a career job, and beside that, What car has true directional wheels!!!??? The tire-changers haven't seen directional wheels before, and won't again, at least until another SVX arrives. I SAY, put them all on backwards. BUT, If you go to a SVX meet, be sure to wear a shirt saying, 'I like my wheels backwards, get over it!' Otherwise, well, you'll get the drill! P.S. You couldn't find any forums on wheel direction? HEY, these guys have a thing going on, seeing who can be the first to say that someone's wheels are on backward, but that's when both wheels per side are backward. And wheels mounted like yours, WELL, my 11-year old would laugh himself silly. I'm sure someone will start a survey on it soon. When they do, I suggest three choices, Who likes--- front bent, back bent and Whatever makes you happy! Well, those seem to be the unofficial wheel rules at SVXnet, Make someone fix it, okay! |

Your wheels are on backwards! Ok, ok, but I just love doing that. I would go back in and have them change them. Good luck.

I'd put em on the right way, if only to avoid the constant "Your wheels are backwards!" observation every time I posted a pic on this board or drove my car to a meet.
When I first saw the car, I thought the rims should face the other way. Now I'm too used to the forward pointing wheels to want them to point backwards. |

when i had my summer / winter tires switched last year and the car pulled up looking the same as yours, i demanded that the tire guys stayed late and fix it. unfortunately for them, i also have directional tires and they had to remount two of them.

Yeah, my tires are directional too. I went in today to get them fixed but they were swamped and I'm going to a party (Graduation Party!) at 3:00, so I'll have them fix it monday.
I will have them put on the stock way, I was driving in front of a store with reflective window and the forward slicing just looks cool. It looks like the rims are grabing onto the pavement for traction.

Re: Re: Backwards Wheels!?

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...heels+backward Here's my story pulled from that thread: I decided to go with Yokohama Avid V4's. I brought in an add from onlinetires.com and Sears matched the price (+$12). I then decided to get a road hazard waranty. Grand total $395. Two weeks went by without any word so I called them, they said they had no record of the order. I had them REorder the tires for me, they came in last wednesday. I sent my mom to bring the car because I've been really busy lately. Turns out I needed an alignment too, so the total was $450. My mom gets the car home and I realized the wheels were on backward (the front right and back left were switched) so I had wheels pointed in all different directions (it was quite funny looking). So I call them and tell them they screwed up, they say to bring it in and they'll fix it (I couldn't cause they're directional tires). I brought the car in 2:30 on Sunday, told them which two needed to be changed they said it would be ready by 5. The girl made a diagram to show the mechanics which to change. I did some shopping and came back at 5, they said it was just coming down. I went to the waiting room and realized that my front left wheel was now backwards too. It turns out the mechanic didn't read the directions and just put them on the way he THOUGHT they went. I went back inside and complained so they said they'd fix them. I showed the mechanic what to do and he goes, "wait, you want them on backwards?". I responded, "no, I want them on right, the way you put them is backwards." He said he was quitting and walked away until another guy offered to help him. So now they had 4 more tires and wheels to change on top of the 2 they already messed up. I left at 5:45 with my new tires and correctly facing wheels. A happy end (for me anyway) to a long and stupid story.

I think it looks good that way. Gotta be different.
Of course, this opinion comes from a guy w/ his wheels on backwards.

YOU SAID;
I already had a poll over a year ago http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/sho...wheels+backward EXACTLY!!! THAT IS PRECISELY MY POINT, THIS IS AN ENDLESS TOPIC! I meant to say, ANOTHER survey! My points were; The directional/misdirectional wheel 'fixation' never ends, Having wheels turn the same direction front or back is personal preference--even Subaru had pictures of rear-bent spokes, SO GET OVER IT! Mixing wheel rotation front to rear is dumb and dumber, fix it! Rear-bent spokes make the wheel look like it was twisted by the sheer torque of hub rotation. Let's not be so petty and boring; Those that have NOS, 5-speeds or Superchargers-- SHOULD MOUNT THEIR STOCK WHEELS REAR-BENT. [no longer considered 'back-ward' BUT FAST-FOR-WARD] Should be a status symbol for those with power mods!!!!! I never reversed my stock wheels, as I always had directional tires. Yes, directional wheels AND directional tires can be to technical for many tire-changers, even when someone holds their hand. Don't get me started on tire shop stories. PS Anyone ever go to a meet with all left or all right wheels to **** with everyone? There must be some pranksters in the group somewhere!! |

My wheels are on the "right" way, i.e., the way they're labeled and delivered from the factory, but I wonder if as I drive around people think I'm a moron with my wheels on backwards. I know that when I first saw them I thought they were wrong. I still think they look wrong, but I'm getting used to seeing them that way. I will reverse them when I get new tires however, dissenting opinions be dammed; I like 'em the "wrong" way.
