The AC system is designed to turn off automatically if the engine temp goes too high. I'm not sure if that's what you experienced or not. It's possible that your AC was less efficient just because of the higher temps outside and under the hood. Last summer we had some REALLY hot days and customers with brand new cars were complaining that their AC wasn't as cold as it normally is. High temp + high humidity = lots of work for the AC system!

I can't wait to take my SVX on a long cruise. perhaps to florida and back. I mean, touring is what the car was built for, right? there's a reason it spins less than 3000 RPMs at 80 and has a really low drag coefficient. I feel like she gets restless just commuting all the time. I might take her down to the cape over the weekend. That's a couple hundred miles round trip IIRC. that'll make her happy.

Yes I think I was experiencing the AC automatically shutting off. I noticed that when it was cold the engine idle at about 750RPM with the AC on ........then when it would turn warm air, the idle was back down to the normal 500 even though the AC was still on. Guess it's a good thing. A little uncomfortable though because it turns the AC off, but leaves the fan on it's highest setting.
Yeah the SVX is a beast when your just cruising. It's suprisingly comfortable for the driver and one passenger. However, once someone hops in the back seat, everyone is uncomfortable I think when I hit 90 it was only at 2750-2800RPMs
