frozen brake pedal?????
Have you experienced this???
If its really cold out and I go out and start my car, my brake pedal feels OK If I then drive the car, the FIRST stop is totally weird... LIKE NO BRAKES...its tho the pedal is welded solid, pumping is like pumping the floor, then suddenly, brakes come back and immediately all is 100% normal...and then no problems, I have great pads, rotors, new fluid this summer [it happened last winter too with the old fluid] ANY THOUGHTS???????? I vote on the booster as well. Mine does the same thing sometimes.
I mentioned it to my dad (my mechanic) a while ago and he said, without hesitation, that it was the booster. Noticed that subaruparts.com lists a master cylinder repair kit. Has anyone ever needed to install this?

brake booster
Thanks for the insight
I guess by booster, you mean the vacuum assist unit... Its just funny that it works perfectly all year long and its only when the weather is BITTERLY cold that it sort of freezes... Thanks for the help, I appreciate it! The Hotshoe guy |

Yea, I would lean twards the brake booster... That was my first thought when I was reading your post... Shouldn't be hard to do... Ya can even find one outta a diffrent Subie (I think)and put that in... I looked at oue outta a 1998 Legacy GT and it looked the same... It's not hard, but it is a two (2) person job to put it back on... Good luck
