Just double checking

During emissions testing, our cars should be run on the two wheel dyno with the front wheel drive fuse in, correct?

4 wheel dyno

I take mine right up to the "all wheel drive" lane and don't touch the fuses.

They ran it for less than a minute last time.

Man, that reminds me. I'm going to have to get my cars tested here in IL when I register them, aren't I? Crap. I haven't had to go through that racket in awhile...

Surprisingly, they only ran mine for about 20 seconds.

Would I have hurt anything by running on the two wheel with the fuse in?

In R.I. garages and dealerships do the inspections so I just take mine to the Subaru dealership, they have no AWD dyno and they know better than to try to put a Subaru on the 2whl.

It was explained previously, by a highly competent member here who I would very much doubt to provide misinformation, that during emmisions testing, the FWD fuse should be inserted and the car should be ran on a 2-wheel dyno. What he said made sense to me and I believe him, but I find it strange that the little SVX booklet mentions nothing of the FWD fuse in relation to emissions testing. I also find it strange that everyone here, as well as dealerships and shops that I have called, say go in the all-wheel drive lane. I gather I'm worrying too much and it really doesn't matter.

when I pull my turbo supra up onto that there "dyno" at the emissions test place, I can't keep the power from spinnin the wheels, they usually just let me leave with a pass, since I make too much tire burn out smoke for anyone to breathe. They gotta get me outta there asap or things could get fatal, its a good thing my car has that much power, cause I have no cats on my exhaust so I wouldn't pass anyway!

Don't worry about your IL emission Nick. Most of the places dont have 4WD dynos so they will not dyno the SVX. Instead, they will do an idle and gas cap test and pass your car. If my SVX ran on the dyno, i'd most likely fail when it ran.

That is not good for the transfer clutches but 20 seconds is not that long and it should be okay.

Thanks for answering my original question, but doesn't inserting the FWD fuse disconnect the rear transfer clutch?

It doesn't 'disconnect' anything - it just tells the TCU to leave the transfer at the lowest pressure. Whether or not it means the MPT clutch is still slipping, I don't know. I suspect that it still slips and therefore wears it.

Yepp. I have a printed copy of that in my glove box. I was also told that SOA actually wrote letter to owners of AWD cars in some states so that they can don't have to take the 2 wheel dyno test.
