RX-8: The New SVX

Have spent some time tire kicking on lots after the unfortunate "spray painting" of the top of my SVX. Her battery is long dead but she served valiantly during the war with Iraq as an emergency fuel storage container.

My interest is peaked in the RX-8 (which is coming out this month). I think there is as much depreciation to lose here as the SVX, maybe even more/quicker....

Similarities:

Funny engine: Wankel.
Funny body style: 2 door coupe w/ "suicide doors".
Funny looking: see for yourself - http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring...s/6_11_maz.htm

Even thought later Wankel's were better, the problems with the earlier RX coupes will no doubt haunt this car. In the secondary market, how many of old folks would let their kid buy a used Wankel?

If they tone down the interior some, I might buy one. I'm weakening......for the new wheels.

don't do it, man!

get the STi.
believe it or not, i think the STi is better looking than the RX-8. its really a shame, because the last gen RX-7 was one of my all time favorite cars.

I'd love to have a perfect gen 3 rx-7. all the inherit problems are solved and can be reliable after the proper rebuild.

yep, they're beautiful cars. i wouldn't mind having an un-molested Supra twin turbo, either.

Have you looked at what those Supras go for now if in good shape. I would like to have couple of those when they were brand new and held until now. how about a five car garage 92 svx 97svx, 98 supra, 98 rx7, and 98 911. and a beater 98 300z.

BUYER BEWARE:

The RX-8 has nearly HALF the torque as the STi

it's a tempting car.. it's an EXTRORDINARILY tempting car.. it's really good looking and it's the best rotary to come along in years, but without some sort of forced induction, it doesn't seem capable of turning torque figures as impressive as its horsepower figures.

re: one of the few cars i would own

that new rx8 is one of the few cars that i actually like. i like the 93-98 supras as well.

if you want a good deal go work for the railroad system or look for a friend that works there. you can buy cars at invoice prices. i asked a friend of mine to see how much he could get a rx8 for. i'll know soon enough. i know the railroad moves fords, mazda's, jags, etc so their employees get a pretty good discount.

i'm thinking about buying one nice to have a rwd car to play with.
