Cool... yeah, I've seen cleaning the throttle body mentioned before, but not the sensor... good thing to know. I have a new amsoil air filter i just put in Monday. It only hesitates when I first pull away from the house, first thing in the morning, and not at all after that.... maybe I *should* reset the ECU after I replace the plugs and fill the driveline with Amsoil...
In other news, my gas idiot light does indeed work, it came on at about 330 miles after my last fill-up. I always use 93 or 94, but I'm going to get some fuel injector cleaner and see if that helps any

If not, replace a full set, and make sure you have the wheels aligned with a 4 wheel laser system. If the alignment is badly out, she will pull all over the place on you. {Potholes and bumps knock them off alignment}

WOW speaking of which. On my trip to Canada, I nearly smoke 4 deer! Thank goodness for AWD, and my new rotors! If they were the warped ones from before, I would probably not have my SVX, or possibly my life any more. I don't know what is it with Montana, but dang there were a lot of them. 3 of which were at night time, so you have barely enough time to see them. One of these was right over a rise, missed him by approx 5 feet. Yes it is fun throwing your SVX sideways at 87mph. The last was first thing at dawn, right when I was so dang tired, I could barely see any more. Does anyone know those bumper deer wistles work at all? I will sure need it for Sept when I drive up there again.

OMG nice! I can't say I have ever let mine get down to the low fuel light, as I tend to fill up on E. However I have NEVER gotten nearly that much driving in the city. I get about 220 miles tops before I think it's time to give it some more gas. Maybe mine is a pig.

running on empty

LOL it was just something I had to try... I needed to know if that light was really gonna work, plus I got tired of filling up every 4 days or so 20mpg isn't too bad, but isn't great considering I drive mostly highway driving ... maybe it'll get better once all the amsoil is in and the plugs are changed

Plugs made a HUGE difference on mine. God only knows when they were changed last. Does anyone know what type of plugs came stock? The ones I pulled out were cheapo NGK plugs (the $0.99 kind). I wouldn't be at all suprised if they were factory plugs with 123K miles on them.

Gas Light

Hi,
I'm from Rochester NY (actually Brockport) and I go home a few times a year. Maybe I'll run into ya sometime on the Thruway.

I've got a black (Ebony Pearl) '97 just like you. Mine's been repainted too - in places. It was clearly in an accident even though CarFax said nothing about it. It was leased and the leasee probalby had it fixed.

In the morning below 2000rpm the car will seem to hesitate up and down in power. That goes away soon.

The gas light will come on. I drive mine past 400miles on a tank and the light comes on right about then. I drive almost all highway (42miles one way) to work. I get about 25+mpg.

The most I've put in the tank so far is 16.5 gals. Still left with 2 gals out of the spec'd 18.6? tank, but that's as far as my nerves can take it.

Enjoy. I do.

Jeff,
Cool, somebody with another '97!! And a black LSi, too! Yeah, next time you're gonna be through the Syracuse area, drop me line (I work in Syracuse, and live in Oswego) and we'll meet up somewhere to compare cars & have a drink or two
I've been wondering if mine was rear-ended because of the paint quality on the rear bumper, but I don't see any signs of an accident (no glass fragments, all panels line up well, doors are in alignment) although the bass from my stock speakers makes something in my doors buzz, and the doors creak When I topped it up yesterday, about 2 miles after the light came on, it took ~ 15.8x gallons, which is right on the money seeig as the manual says you should have 2.3 gallons left when the light comes on...
As for plugs, I dropped $80 on new NGK laser platinums, only to see on another post here that I may have ruined them by gapping them

Have you replaced your fuel filter and O2 sensors and dropped a bottle ot Chevron Techron in the tank? My car was also getting Land Rover-like gas mileage until I replaced the O2 sensors; now I can do a five hour stretch on the highway w/o stopping for gas. Hope this helps.

Plugs and things

Baddog,
New plugs already? I haven't been following the whole thread but that seems too soon. Did you do it yourself? Tough job.

My crash was in the front right side. The new headlight bezel gives it away. Everything lines up nicely though. My whole pass side needs to be fixed. A dozen little dings (musta parked next to an idiot) and a little ding of my own thanks to a 'hidden' truck bumper in a tight parking lot.

One of these days I'm gonna have the whole side re-painted.

I haven't been able to drive the SVX home yet. We always seem to have too much cargo with two kids and a live-in guess right now.

Have you put PIAA lights in yet. Both the fogs (Crystal Ion) and low beams...you won't believe your eyes!

I keep my car in a garage and have to drive up an incline to get out. Whenever I hit that incline w/o giving the car a minute or two to warm up, it always hesitates a bit... never fails. But once the car is warmed up, the hesitation disappears.

Hmmm I'll have to start making a list... PIAA bulbs... O2 sensors ($$$$ I a$$ume ) ... fuel filter....
I bought th eplugs, but haven't put them in yet. I'll probably have a dealer do it along with amsoiling my tranny :-)

And it's heartening to see i'm not th eonly one experiencing the hesitation problem, and that it apparently doesn't degrade with time. That cheers me up

Bah...do the plugs yourself....

it's always rewarding doing things yourself on your car. (At least I feel that way anyways). It's really not that hard, just takes some time. I wrote up a quick howto for it with pictures. It will save you the $100 or so they will probably charge you.

If I remember right (probably don't it's been about a year)...My service manager said the book rate on plugs is 3.5hours @ probably $80/hr = $280

and he's right you do feel better when you're done, as long you don't have big hands don't fit into tight spaces.

Yikes!

They have it listed as 3.5 hours?? Wow, yep you would be looking at a $250+ bill. Good thing I did mine for the cost of 2 Dos Esquis greens (for the guy who helped...he got airbox side...lucky him.)
