99 Outback

Does the 99 Outback have a low fuel warning light. Some say yes others say no. If there is one, mine doesnt work. Also my trip odometer is stuck on all 555 half way down. Can it be fixed or do I need a new gauge cluster.

Re: 99 Outback

Yes, it does have a light. How low have you gone. It will come on with about 1.5 gallons left in the tank, so unless you've put over 14 gallons in at fill up, it wouldn't have come on.

For the trip meter, get a cluster from someone parting a car or a JY. You may be able to take them apart to swap out the trip portion, or find one with similar miles and swap the whole thing. If I remember correctly, you'll need to get from a 99.

Re: 99 Outback

In Conn they check the miles at Emissions. So you need a cluster with at least as many miles or more. If you show up with less than last time the computer will kick it out as fraud...
Should not be a problem finding a cluster with high mileage.

Re: 99 Outback

The 97 Outback we've had on the lot does not have a low fuel light, or it's burnt out. Ask me how I know
As with all Subaru's, the gas gauge is a bit pessimistic.

My old 97 Outback had a low fuel light. I lit it up frequently....

Re: 99 Outback

My wife ran out of gas driving my outback a few weeks ago, and the light never came on. Would it be a bad bulb, which most people say hardly ever happens, or something else. OT has my car and is working on it as we speak, so Id appreciate the insight to fixing it.

Re: 99 Outback

I've had several '95-'98 Legacys and they all had low fuel lights which fortunately were very reliable because the gauges themselves never worked right... '99 was the same chassis and should have one also.
