Transmission indicator lights
My rebuilt transmission is working great mechanically, but the gear position lights on the instrument panel are acting up. Everything works fine in gears 1, 2 and 3. But the "D" never lights up. When I shift to neutral, the "R" light comes on. If I wiggle it for awhile, I can get the "R" light off and the "N" light to come on. In reverse, the "R" light comes on fine. In park, the "P" light comes on only if I pull the shift lever backwards against the stop.
This wouldn't bother me much, except the starter interconnect in "P" and "N" is flakey too. I can't start the car without pulling back slightly on the shift lever in park, and finding the neutral starting spot is almost impossible. My shop put in a different "used" neutral switch with no change. The transmission wire harness had ben buggered up a little from an earlier shop that didn't understand SVX transmissions, and the new shop (who have worked SVX's before, and had one on the lot when I first took it there, yeah!) fixed the connector, but maybe it's acting up? Any ideas? |
