Re: what to drive - v 5.0

Well I have just voted the Forester.

However, I would go the '92 SVX if I was running it weekly and was happy all was ship shape mechanically. The SVX laughs at 300 mile stints. It has the best potential for taking the strain off you on such a run.

The polo would too, of course, but I would be reluctant to add a load of miles on it.
[On saying that, a trip to England for me for the yearly meet adds that kind of miles ]

I would use the Forester probably, room for luggage, comfortable ride, powerful, safe. What's a few extra gallons of gas?

Joe

thanks for voting. the 92 svx is my daily driver and gets about 90 miles put on it every day, so i have no issues about taking this particular 17yo car on a road trip.

as for the forester, it's anything but a comfortable ride. the cargo space would be nice, but there's only two of us with a 3-ball bowling bag, a small suitcase, and duffle bag. also the forester is rather loud since the exhaust isn't exactly stock.

OK Ken

If you don't need the ball room, the '92 is the best bet.

BTW, I'm intrigued to hear it is not comfortable. I had planned to buy a Japanese Sti one with six speeds and improved suspension, but shied off it because the yearly road tax here is hyper-expensive with the high consumption 2.5 turbo engine.

Now I have come to the conclusion I need the Legacy twin scroll Spec B like my brother just bought last week. Rides good, no noise [with standard exhaust]

Decision made. 270 hp Forester Sti good; 270 hp Legacy Spec B better.

how'd i let my thread get ignored for so long?

the seat bottoms don't seem long enough to give me proper thigh support for long drives. the same was true of my legacy. the new models of each don't seem to be as bad, but it's hard to tell from just test drives.

Re: what to drive - v 5.0

the reason i bumped this old thread was to give it some closure (not that i'm asking a mod to close it). i ended up taking the 92. ended up putting a total of 1735.4 miles on it and consuming 63.894 gallons. this equals 27.161 mpg which was/is slightly above my lifetime average.
