Re: EZ36 swap
It's unfortunate that all of Subaru's 6-cylinder engines are so much more limited in availability than their 4-cylinder mills. There will be a point where any given part will become extinct for this car, and the EG33 is no exception.
Before finding my way to the supercharged sample in my driveway, I'd thought about using a EZ3.0R with a reflash. All told, it would probably be a lot easier with a standalone like the eManage Ultimate or a comparable piece. Drive-by-wire can be out of the equation - sure enough, we've seen ITBs here already! I don't know that I'd want to tie an automatic transaxle to any swap, partly because there'd surely be some substantial effort involved, but mostly because I don't much dig 'em. At least today, we have the advantage of parts still being readily available. Just look at all the part-outs.

Re: EZ36 swap
Well, there's an EZ36 on eBay for $4100 right now...
EZ36 - $4100 engine management - $1100-1600 + tuning custom exhaust custom mounts custom wiring custom transaxle matching (you know, the wirey bits) mods for the drive by wire transfer I'm sure it could be done for under $10k.
