Cylinder Head: Hydraulic Lash Adjuster Slide
I have my car fully disassembled. I took my heads in to have the springs removed before cleaning and powdercoat. I returned to pick up the heads along with some bad news, the outer slide for one of the hydraulic lash adjusters has twisted and moved down a quarter of an inch. The slide is also cracked on the top side (see attached). I have found my ticking problem! from the wear marks it looks like its been there a while. There is a small stress crack about an 1/8" long at the top of the slide, this i am assuming is what allowed it to move. The slide looks like it can move but is solid. It twisted about 35* from the original position (see oil passage holes)
Searching on subaruparts.com the show no replacement for this slide. What I am wondering is if anyone knows a source for this, or if not would it hurt to find someone to machine the part to spec of a new lash adjuster? I really do not want to have to replace the head just because of this small part that is not part of the head. If its removable it should be replaceable! Please see the attached photo for details. they are not serviced seperately... Hold did it slide down? did it hang on the lifter? Gonna need a new head unfortunately unless you have an aftermarket source for a replacement

it definitely must have hung up. it was however in this condition when I got the car, assuming the ticking was caused by the oil passages being misaligned but the tick would go away periodically. If I find someone to make the part out of the same material and getting both the head inner diameter and the outer diameter of the lash adjuster correctly, what would that harm? would have to of course make the inside diameter on the head a tinge over to press fit in. the oil passages would also have to be drilled any thoughts?

I'm not sure what you were willing to pay to fix it but there is a cylinder head on ebay for $250 plus shipping, might be other members with parts laying around for cheaper. Sucks as a problem but nice find, it was one of the things I was trying to avoid when I bought my heads from Tom and the guys during the AWD inc. days. (Nice price too!)
