Radiator fans not coming on at all. Help...
Hi, I'm looking to see if anyone know hows the fans are controlled? I have tested ever relay and replaced the temp sensor. The fans work when bypass at the fuse panel. The sensor only have 4.85 volts coming in to it. Is this right? I know I'm missing something. Does the computer control the fans, I wonder? Please let me know if there is a subaru magic switch on button to hit..

Opps I missed the word "not" in the title. The fans are not coming on at all.

There are many different inputs that control the fans on the SVX.

Re: Radiator fans not coming on at all. Help...
Bill fans if I remember right fire up when grounded (meaning that they'll come on when the thermo switch makes a ground. You can try a couple of things to better help out your chance of getting a good reply and diagnosis.
1. Does the fan come on when the ac is on? 2. Fuses fine (sorry but K.I.S.S!) 3. Can you run a ground to the engine from the neg (one that goes to the coolant temp switch) and do they turn on? Don't quote me but I think the thermo switch is on the return line to the radiator. If they do then you likely have a bad coolant temp switch or bad wiring (the wiring gets horribly tarnished coming out of the thermo switch. First thing I'd try though if it turns on when adding a ground is pulling your coolant temp switch and lightly cleaning it with some fine sandpaper then reinstall. Remember to have the car to the on position though when trying it!

Re: Radiator fans not coming on at all. Help...
Hopefully you have signatures turned on, theres a link to the downloadable online SVX service manual in mine that has a complete wiring diagram for the SVX fan control system. Its pretty complex, but might give you a head start on finding the fault.

Re: Radiator fans not coming on at all. Help...
Thanks for all the help.. The link to the wiring was the key. It all came down to the fuse for the a/c wasn't contacting right. once I removed the and replaced the connector on the negative side, this were back to normal. That one took a while to figure out. The fuse even tested good to. Thanks again for all
