Guess What! I Need a New Tranny

It broke last night in a parking lot. This morning I've been calling around to different shops and they are all want around 2k for the job. I checked out NW Import Specialists (someone recommended them to me) and they want 6k for the job which is WAY more then what I am willing and can afford to pay. Does $2000 sound right. It seems high to me, but I've never had to buy a new tranny before so I dont really know what the range is. Anyways, if you have a ideas or places I could call, please tell me. I live in the Vancouver area so places in Seattle wont help.

$2000 for a new or rebuilt tranny in a SVX sounds LOW.

Last I heard the price at the dealers was in the $3K-$4K range to install a Subaru rebuild, and that was several years ago.

Other non-dealer shops are probably less, but still I wouldn't think of $2K as expensive for this car.

Also be careful, there have been several members in the past that have had trouble with certain places like Aamco.

Good luck!

My quotes range from $2100-$6000. The shop just down the street from me is offering the $2100 rebuild. But most of my quotes have been in the low 3k range. I've heard bad things about Aamco also. I didnt even bother calling them.

Smile Aamco

Call the Aamco in Vancouver Washington on 4th plain. I know the builder there, I've known him for over 20 years and he has built two SVX tranny's for me. One of them has 25,000 miles on it and it works perfect, the other I just put in and I would never have a transmission built anywhere else but by the builder at Aamco. Call him and get a quote it is worth every dime you'll pay for it. They will advise you on all the changes you need to know and the steps you need to make so it is right the first time. If someone tells you 2000.00 dollars to R&R and Rebuild run as quickly as you can from there and call Aamco on 4th plain. Fishtail, my 2centsworth.
