Switch to front wheel drive
I have been trouble shooting my power steering system and so I have switched my car to FWD only.
This feature was for maintenance purposes but, my question is can I keep it that way. Will it damage anything with continued use. There is no longer any binding since the rear wheels are no longer spinning and , the power steering really seems better. Last edited by Archer999; 10-09-2006 at 05:54 PM. |

Added stress will be put on the front diff & axles. It's not recommended to run in this mode for prolonged periods of time.

Fwd
good to know. I will need to put it back into AWD then. O' well, I do like the added security that the AWD gives me anyway.

but people have been able to run their car for long periods of time with out trouble.. however its would still be better to fix the binding problem rather then taking the "duct tape" approach

Binding problem
I only notice a slight amount of binding when I am turning very sharp at a low rate of speed. It may bind at high rates of speed but I have never felt anything.
So, is a small amount of binding normal on AWD vehicles? |

Eh, it's mildly normal. Commonly called Torque Bind - cars have driven with it for ages, just avoiding the tight turning part. My car's had it for over 20k miles now - no issues. I just to my best to avoid the binding.

Binding
No my power light does not blink when I start it. By the way what does that green little power light mean? Is it part of the electronic controlled steering or shifting different torque to different tires?
