AWD effect on MPG

Since I got my AWD working I have noticed that the tranny runs cooler. I also takes longer to heat up and it takes longer for the TC to lock up. The point here is that on short drives, less than a hour or so the TC does not lock-up and the MPG goes down to around 22 from the normal highway of 25 mpg.
