HERE is my (NOT A ZR-1) quote: Quote:

Let me note that with an original selling price of $57k, today's average selling price of $30k for this nearly 15 year old car means less than 50% depreciation in that time. Of course it is a pretty rare car, but that's still good...look at any used Ferrari and you'll realize how good. Quote:

Both of you stop your bickering or get married.. seriously... you're both grown men and you're being rediculous. neither of you will ever change the others mind. anyway...
I see the advantage of buying a used car in the depriciation, and initial cost of the vehicle. The "advantages" of buying a brand new car are getting fewer and fewer. Specifically look at a brand new model having typically 5 times as many problems as a second year or more model. however like any "investment" risk is always involved.

i wish had something to say, but i go both ways. oops, i meant to say i've purchased both new and pre-owned vehicles. the older i get, the more i prefer to have payments and depreciation over repair bills.

Until the C6 ZO6 hit's the streets, the 1990-1992 ZR1's will remain the fastest street Vette ever. The C5 ZO6 is just a tick off pace. Now I really don't think a ZR1 could even offer a challenge to a C5 ZO6 on a course, but in raw acceleration, the ZR1 has the crown for now. How's this you ask? The ZR1 had a wacky engine. Developed by Lotus and built out-of-house by GM's CSV team, the LT5 was a DOHC aluminum block V8. Redlining at 8500rpm (I think), the engine delivered 405hp and 400lb/ft. This was kind of an experiment for GM and the results were not positive (engine was ridiculously complicated and expensive to maintian, so it was dropped along with the ZR1 and the next engine to take up it's slot was the LT4 in 1994). So the reason, I believe, that the BJ auctioned Vettes sold so well is the prestige that a vehicle sold by them carries. They will really show you the absolute best that you can get for a given vehicle. Not to mention both those examples had less than 10k miles and were absolutely flawless. I just used that to illustrate what the Vette is capable of. Last edited by Shadow248; 04-20-2005 at 08:16 PM. |

I have to note that I just learned something. The ZR-1 Vette lived until 1995. However, in 1994 as i noted, the LT4 replaced the LT5 motor. But I do know that the LT5 was not produced past 1992...so that leaves 1993 as a big question mark. What motor did they use? Hmmm.

with a used car you know any problems the car might have. case in point, the svx tranny. new owners in 92 didnt know their tranny was going to go out in 75k.
some insurences charge less for used cars. parts are cheeper on the average (key word average) used car. unless its a sports car your best to buy used if you spend time to think about it. and even if its a sports car you can get a great deal if you have maintence records (i plan on buying a boxter or bmw z3 when i graduate school) |
