brake light - stupid question

My brake light came on while driving to work this morning. My parking brake is fully off and the fluid level is fine. What else could this be? The light won't turn off when the car is on. Thanks.

Is it the brake lamp light or the actual brake light that goes on when you pull up on your e-brake?

The in-dash brake light is the light that comes on. Sorry for not being clearer on that. I just tested my ABS and that seems to be working fine. Could my fluid sensor have gone out? If so, how might I test that?

I have had the problem of the switch on the hand brake coming loose enough to trigger the dash Brake light even when brake is all the way off.
I have also had poor connections in my tail brake lights that will trigger the brake Lamp light on the dash

sorry if this seems dumb, but have you physically checked the brake lights? If one is burnt out the dash brake light comes on.

the same thing happened to me in the winter time. the fluid level was fine and everything else was running fine. the in dash brake light wouldnt turn off at all. i even restarted the engine about 4 times to see if it would go off but no luck. what i ended up doing was opening the brake fluis cap to check the level and then as soon as i closed the cap the light went off.

Isn't there a separate idiot light for that, though? I thought there was a 'Stop Lamp' light to tell you when a brake light was out.

As I understand it, if both brake lights on one side go out, that light won't come on...go figure
