I think there is a misunderstanding somewhere, either in what the PO thinks, or what you heard.

Resetting is generally accomplished by disconnecting the battery and letting it sit for a day. I have also heard of resetting it by removing both battery cables and touching them together (NOT while connected to the battery). Think of it like the computer needs to lose all the stored electrical charge which retains the performance parameters.

Once or twice I have heard of problems with the charging system that responds to a reset. It happened to me once, but in the long run turned out to be an indicator that the alternator was marginal.

Keep in mind that several full-cold to full-warm drive cycles will be necessary for the computer to manage your systems efficiently.

Like Lee said, I think that the PO may be confused with the problem. I would check the battery, and if ok, drive it and see how it runs. If the battery is not ok, I would replace it, drive it and see how it goes from there. Good luck.
