Road Trip
I went up to Syracuse yesterday & returned last night in the '92 SVX (SVXY). It was a road trip for work. The car performed wondefully except for one irritating problem. The passenger side windshield washer nozzles must be clogged since the spray just dribbles out. This wasn't a problem until we got above Cortland, NY. The snow was blowing and the road salt spray from traffic kept coating the windshield. When we arrived I gassed up and cleaned up the car. The headlights had about 3/16" of muck on them.
Unfortunately, the equipment that we tested for work failed miserably. The most interesting thing that happened occurred in the morning, on route I-81, just above Bingington, NY. We saw an 18-wheeler that had lost his rear axle in the center median. The driver was Ok and out of the truck inspecting the damage. we saw the axle about a 1/4 mile north of the truck. About 5 miles north of that we saw an SUV overturned in the central median. It must have just happened because people we stopped and running towards it. We could see movement from someone inside it., but couldn't make out too much as the windshield was badly cracked. It hope they were alright. Both these accidents were on the southbound side and we were northbound so we couldn't stop. Most of the trip up was done at 80-90 mph. I got about 22 mph at this speed with 2 people + junk in the car. The Yokohama AVS dB S2 tires performed very well on compacted snow, and virgin parking lot snow in Syracuse. They also were flawless on ice patches encountered on the highways at speed. Of course , these tires are new, which makes a big difference.

i'll have to check my gas mileage - i haven't done it in a while. i remember is was pretty consistant, though. it amazing how much more advanced the WRX computer is - between my wife (drives like little old lady) and me (drives a bit more enthusiastically ), its like two different cars. if i have it out for the day, it takes a bit to warm up to my driving style, but then its back to being a rocket. then she complains about the gas mileage.

Jeez, I guess they expect perfection at our age, Larry ("wondefully", "22mph"). Compared to the 'loose' missive's I see from others, you'd think they'd cut us old guys more slack! <LOL>
You might try a small piece of stiff wire (like from a wire brush) to poke in and clean out your 'pisser' nozzles. It works for me. Sometimes they just get a little frozen up with ice and stuff, but sometimes a little crud can get lodged in there and clog. Isn't it amazing how often you see one of those big, honkin' SUV's up on their 'lids'? I'll take a low center of gravity every time. Subaru AWD is the only way to travel, and the SVX can be the 'best of the best' for winter stability while highway traveling. If the weather is really god-awful, it can still be stressful, but an SVX can truly take the 'white knuckles' out of the experience. -Mark |

Mark,
I geneally use a straight pin or an old hat pin to clean out clogged nozzles. What amazes me is the aerodynamics of the SVX front end. That's why the front end and front top of the hood have so much muck on them in really rotten weather in traffic. Being an "old guy" myself, I use a piece of stiff wire and some duct tape to solve another problem.
